HomeMy Public PortalAboutCAC minutes 10.10.23 Citizen’s Advisory Committee Minutes October 10, 2023 6:00 p.m. The Citizen’s Advisory Committee meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Members present from left to right: Felton Barnes, Yvonne Shanklin, Kristen Sallberg, Ray Nelson, and Roy Estes. 1. Called to Order Vice President Kristen Sallberg called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. 2. Pledge of Allegiance The attendees present recited the Pledge. 3. Approval of the Agenda During the meeting, Mr. Estes made a Motion to approve the agenda, seconded by Mr. Nelson. 4. Action Item 4.1 Approval of September’s Minutes- Ms. Sallberg asked if anyone wanted to make a motion to approve the minutes; Ms. Shanklin made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Mr. Barnes. 5. Presentation 5.1 Lutheran Services (Sherri Kirkpatrick and Jamie LaPointe)- The organization is in Pensacola, Florida, and serves District 1 by helping children between the ages of 10 and 17 who are either runaway, truant, ungovernable, or homeless. The Currie House is in Pensacola, and the Hope House is in Crestview. The organization receives funding from the Department of Juvenile Justice through the Florida Network of Youth and Family Services based in Tallahassee. 6. Mayor’s Minutes 6.1 October 14th- 6.2 FAMU Pharmacy School- Is having a health fair from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. 6.3 Radio Operations- Ham Radio Operations Fest at the Community Center from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. 6.4 Oktoberfest at the Bush House- a German cultural event where you can sample authentic food- an all-day event. 6.5 Trunk or Treat - There will be a Trunk or Treat event from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Old Spanish Trail. After the event, Hocus Pocus will be shown at the amphitheater. 6.6 City Government Week- October 16- October 20. Monday: Coffee with the Leadership at Casbah Coffee, a public meeting at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday: Leadership Graduation at Warrior's Hall at 6:00 p.m., open to the public. Wednesday: Alice Summit hosted by The United Way Foundation, open to the public, at Crestview Community Center from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This summit will delve into the lives of those who live paycheck to paycheck and the impact the economy is having on them. Thursday: City Hall and other City buildings will be closed for Employee Appreciation Day, a day of team building and recognition. Friday: Elected officials will serve meals and wait tables for customers at Hub City Smokehouse from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. 6.7 Alzheimer's Walk- Saturday, October 21, at Old Spanish Trail Park, supporting those affected by this disease and their family members. 6.8 Drug Take Back Program- Saturday, October 28, at the Crestview Police Department from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. for those trying to get rid of their prescription drugs. 6.9 Fall Festival- located on Main Street from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Bring your families to check out our local vendors and score some candy. 6.10 Sister’s Cities- Fundraiser for Sister Cities: Farm-to-Table Gala Dinner on November 10th at Crestview Community Center. Couples pay $80; singles pay $45. 7. Closing Remarks 7.1 Mr. Barnes would like to thank the city for going to Allen Park to clean up the shrubbery. 7.2 Mr. Nelson inquired about the Poster Project. There are videos on the city's website regarding Pedestrian Safety Awareness Month.
