A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
APPOINTING YOLANDA RODRIGUEZ GONZALEZ AS THE CITY TREASURER TO
FILL THE UNEXPIRED TERM OF FORMER CITY TREASURER EDWIN
HERNANDEZ ON THE CONDITION THAT THE APPOINTEE'S BACKGROUND
INFORMATION IS DULY VERIFIED; ALTERNATIVELY, IN THE EVENT THAT THE
ABOVE APPOINTEE DOES NOT PASS HIS/HER BACKGROUND CHECK, THE
CITY COUNCIL APPOINTS CYNTHIA MARTINEZ
WHEREAS, the City Treasurer position has become vacant with the election of
Edwin Hernandez to the City Council; and
WHEREAS, Government Code Section 36512(b) states that the City Council
must either appoint a person or call for a special election within 60 -days of the position
becoming vacant; and
WHEREAS, the statutory 60 -day period to appoint a City Treasurer began
December 3, 2013 and ends on February 1, 2014; and
WHEREAS, City Council publicly interviewed and considered all present
candidates at its Special Meeting on January 28, 2014 and, upon due consideration by
the City Council, appointed, first, Yolanda Gonzalez, subject to the completion of a
background check, and, alternatively, Cynthia Martinez, subject to the same
requirement of a satisfactory background check;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City Council appoints Yolanda Gonzalez, subject to the
completion of a background check, and, alternatively, Cynthia Martinez, subject to the
same requirement of a satisfactory background check, as City Treasurer to fill the
unexpired term of former City Treasurer Edwin Hernandez.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
Section 3. The City Clerk shall certify as to. the adoption of this Resolution.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 28th day of January, 2014.
