Normally the fixture is designed for the application. Or the fixture/lamp itself is already “dimmable” but I have only seen those in interior type applications. That being said, a quick “google” education upon receipt of this email shows that there may be solutions in the way of different drivers, constant current, etc… I would think the manufacturer should be able to steer us in the right direction. We are basically looking for a “set it and forget it” scenario I would think. Once it is set it will stay in place for the life of the fixture. So we would want to look at any life expectancy issues with that. This comment is from the engineer at Beacon: “Two drivers in the fixture. Disconnect one driver and move the engine wires to the other driver, that way you’ll get 27W fixture.” Also, I am awaiting on information as t dimming the fixture. Beacon does not recommend putting the frosted lenses in. One recommendation would be to eliminate the lenses, as they are not really required with the LEDs. We do that quite often so we still have the same appearance, without the maintenance required cleaning lenses, etc. Going to a 3000K color temperature reduce the light output about 15%. I could bring a 3000K demo lamp to you so they could see the difference in color temperature. Please let me know if you need one. Finally, my experience has been, when people are evaluating any type of light fixture, indoors or outdoors, they are focusing on the fixture, looking directly at it, etc. I commonly get comments about the brightness, etc., but when fixtures are in normal use, people usually do not pay that much attention. If we were still using a metal halide or HPS option, and people looked at the fixture, they would probably still complain about “glare”.
