HomeMy Public PortalAbout04-29-1965 223 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY April 29, 1965 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana met in regular session in the City Hall in said City Thursday, ;April 29, 1965 at the hour of 9:00 o'clock a.m. (est). Mr. Jameson presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Gehr and Mr. Kemper. The following business was had to-wit: The Clerk read the minutes of th re 'ous mee ing. There being no corrections or additions Mr. Kemper moved the minutes be 'seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote was carried. Mr.Kemper moved the claims be allowed and polr. seconded by Mr.Gehr and on voice vote was. carried. Mayor Cordell reported that he had a request from the Disabled Veterans for permission to sell Poppies on the streets in the City April 29, 30 and May 1, 1965. The Board on motion made by Mr. Gehr, seconded by Mr; Kemper and unanimously carried gave permission to this request. Captain Fred Klotz of the Fire Prevention Bureau reported by letter that he had made a personal investigation of the domplaint from neighbors living near the "Junk Yard" located at South 7th and "M" Streets. Captain Klotz advised Mrs. Leah Edelman, owner to repair the fence, rid the yard of rats and clean up the property. The Fire Department will continuo to check this "junk yard" and try and keep it in order. A complaint by Mr. Roscoe Yates against Roy Cates, owner of a garage and junk ear lot located at South 13th & Q Street was received, Mr. Yates stated in the complaint that Mr. Cates was placing junk cars too close to his property line and requested the Board to take some action to stop Mr. Cates of this practice. The Board authorized the Clerk to write Mr. Cates and have him appear before the Board for an explanation of this complaint. Fire Chief Fredricks reported that the Fire Marshall, Rollf Wadman had taken all the steps within his power to have the properties located 311 South 9th, 605, 607, 609 North 12th and 1202 North F Street, torn down. These properties are beyond repair and should be demolished. The Clerk authorized to notify each property owner of the City's intent to start demolition proceedings. Miss Ruth Ellen Kunz, through her attorney Robert L.Reinke filed a complaint of injuries received by a fall which occurred March 30, 1965, while walking upon a sidewalk located on the north side of South I, between 8th and 9th Streets. The fall was attributed to the sidewalk being cracked, broken and uneven. This complaint was filed by Registered Mail and referred to Mr. Kemper. / Mr. Kemper presented a contract between the Bench-Ad of Indiana and the City-of Richmond, Indiana. The contract permits the Bench Ad of Indiana to place 35 benches on City property at different locations that are set out in said contract. The fee is to be $1.00 per year per bench. The Bench Ad has filed proper certificate of liability insurance. Mr. Kemper moved the Board sign and execute the contract between the Bench Ad of Indiana and the City of Richmond, Indiana. Mr. Gehr seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried. The question of permitting the Cincinnati Enquirer to place bag and run rack in various sections of the City was discussed. Mr. Kemper expressed that he was opposed to the request and moved it be denied. Mr. Jameson seconded the motion. Mr. Gehr voted for the request. The vote being declared 2-1 in favor of the motion to deny the request. There being no further business presented, on motion duly made, seoonded and carried the meeting adjourned.
