HomeMy Public PortalAbout03-25-1965 21.5 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY March 25, 1965 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana met in regular session in the City Hall in said City, Thursday, March 25, 1965, at the hour of 9:00 o'clock a.m. (est). Mr. Jameson presiding with the following members being present, Mr. Kemper and Mr. Gehr. The following business was had to-wit: The Clerk read the minutes of the previous meeting. There being no corrections or additions, Mr. Kemper moved the minutes be accepted as read. This motion was seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote was carried. Mr. uehr moved the claims be allowed and paid, This motion was seconded by Mr. Kemper and on voice vote was carried. The Clerk presented Ordinance No. 2115-1965 "AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING AND EMPOWERING THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, TO PURCHASE CERTAIN PROPERTY FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA". (New 85 ft. Ladder Aerial Truck for the Fire Department). This Ordinance was passed by the Common Council the 15th day of March, 1965 and approved by the Mayor. Mr. Kemper moved the Board execute and sign the bid of the Pirsch Company in the amount of $48,754.50 (net), which was the lowest and best bid submitted. Mr. Gehr seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried. Chief of Police, Stultz requested permission to have Officers John Fox and Ronald Chestnut attend the Peace Officers Training School at Purdue University. This school to be held from April 26, 1965 through May 14, 1965. The costs will be $200.00 per student for all expenses. Mr. Kemper moved the Board grant the above request, seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote was carried. Councilman Hollingsworth's complaint of the "dips" in the intersections of Glen Court and 21st and 22nd Streets were referred to the Street Commissioner. Councilman Hollingsworth's complaint of car bodies and the repairing of cars at 322 North 17th Street was referred to the Police Department for investigation. Councilman Marino's complaint of the condition of the Pennsylvania Railroad cross- ings were referred to the City Engineer. Councilman Marino's complaint of stray dogs running at large was referred to the Dog Catcher. The Clerk presented proof of publication of notice showing that on the dates of March 8th and 15th, 1965, notice had been duly published in the Richmond Palladium- Item, a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Richmond, Indiana that sealed bids would be received until the hour of 10:00 o'clock a.m. (est) to do the work provided in Improvement Resolution No. 1071-1965. Mr. Kemper examined the proof of publication and found the same to be correct and in order and moved said proof of publication be received and filed. Mr. Gehr seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried. The Board now finds that there were no bids received on Improvement Resolution 1071- 1965. No action was taken to re-advertise the same. Mr. Hurley appeared before the Board requesting permission to move a dwelling house from 1544 South 7th Street to 1617 South 7th Street in the City of Richmond, Indiana. Sgt. Martin of Traffic Division was called in and reported that there wouldn't be any complications of traffic on the date that the building would be moved which is Saturday March 27, 1965. Mr. Hurley stated that all utilities had been contacted. On motion made by Mr. Kemper and seconded by Mr. Gehr the Board approved Mr. Hurley be granted br.permit to move this dwelling house. Mr. Jameson reported that the City was now in a position to make installations of street lighting in various sections of the City where they are most needed. Mr. Jameson and Mr. Rees of the Light Plant had made surveys of locations that had been petitioned for. Mr. Jameson recommended the following installations be made: 216 Estimate 2543, South 10th Street, between 1300 and 1400 block at a monthly cost of $12.00. Estimate 2710, South "E" Street, between 16th and 18th Streets at a monthly cost of $5.00. Estimate 2883, Southwest 21st Street, between "G" and "L" Streets at a monthly cost of $12.00. Estimate 2862, Southwest "G" Street, between S.W. lst,and S.W. 2nd Streets. at a monthly cost of $12.00. Estimate 2885,. 700 South 6th Street at a monthly cost of $4.00. Mr. Kemper moved the above installations be authorized, seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote was carried. Other installations will be authorized as money permits. Mr. Kemper stated that he will make a study of the proper proceedure to follow for the repairing of sidewalks in the City.
