HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-12-1964 178 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY ________ November 12, 1964 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana met in regular _ session in the 6ity Hall in said City, Thursday, November 12, 1964, at the hour of 9:00 O'clock a.m. Mr. Jameson presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Gehr and Mr. Kemper; The following buisness was had, to-wit: The Clerk read the minutes of the previous meeting. Mr. Kemper moved the, minutes of the previous meeting be approved as read. This motion was seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote was carried. Mr. Gehr moved the bills be allowed, seconded by Mr. Kemper and on voice vote was carried. Mayor Cordell reported that an investigation was made of the zoning of the Holzapple ,Addition and found this area to be zoned heavy industrial. He will inform the residents-of this area and suggest they go through the proper proceedure to rezone their propert *es. Mayor Cordell received a report from the Street Commissioner that the "Speed Bumps" on Waterfall Road would be very dangerous to the equipment of the Street Department when snow has to be removed. The Clerk was authorized to notify the Spring Grove Board that if the City is to continue the practice of removing snow from this road the blimps should be removed during the winter. Street Commissioner Burlison wanted authorization from the Board to pay the employees of the Street Department for 9-hours on legal holidays. He explained that 9 hours was a regular working day. Mr. Kemper moved that the employees of the Street De- i partment be paid for 9 hours on legal holidays. This motion was seconded by Mr. 1 ,Gehr and on voice vote was carried. The Board directed the Chief of Police to contact Mr. Cates located at South 13th and 1!' Henley Road and tell. him that all of the cars belonging to him will have to be removed from the shoulder of Henley Road. Two representatives of the Sintriol Burglar Alarm appeared before the Board requesting permission to install equipment in the Police Department. Chief of Price Stultz recommended this equipment. There will be no cost to the City for this installation and maintenance. Mr. Charles Sperling is the local representative for this equip- ment. Mr. Kemper moved that the Police Department provide ample space for this in- stallation. This motion was seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote was carried. The City will reserve the right to give a 30 day notice for removal if this install- ation doesn't prove to be satisfactory to the operation of the Police Department. The Clerk presented proof of publication of notice showing that on October 26 and Nov. 2, 1964 notice had been duly published in the Richmond Palladium-Item, a newspaper' of general circulation in the City of Richmond, Indiana of Notice to Contractors, that sealed proposals would be received to do the work as provided in Improvement ' Resolution No. 1068-1964, to construct curb and gutter on the north side of Lindoln Street, from NW 4th to NW 5th Streets. Mr. Kemper examined the proof of publication and found the same to be in order and moved the proof of publication be filed. Mr. Gehr seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried: November 12, 1964 being the date to receive bids for work to be done as provided in Improvement Resolution No. 1068-1964. One bid was received opened and read aloud ;as follows: Jul Gerken, Inc., Richmond, Indiana $1,372.0O City Engineer's Estimate 31,498.00 Mr. Gehr, City Engineer examined the bid and found the same to be in order and under the estimate cost and moved it be accepted. Mr. Kemper seconded the motion and on voice vote was unanimously carried. The Clerk presented proof of publication that on the 26th day of October and 2nd day of Nov. 1964 notice had been duly published in the Richmond Palladium-Item, a news- paper of general circulation in the City of Richmond, Indiana, that sealed proposals would be received for the construction of a Surface Drainage Sewer to extend from the Belden Manufacturing Company parking lot to and along the Waterfall Road. Mr. Kemper examined the proof of publication and found the same to be in order and moved the proof of publication be filed. Mr. Gehr seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried. Bd. of Works cont. 14'F Nov. 12, 1964 November 12, 1964 being the date designated to receive bids to do the above work. The following bids were received and read aloud: DeLucio and Sons DeBolt Concrete Company Mr. Kemper moved the bids be referred to the City Engineer for study and final tabulation) Mr. Kemper moved the request of the Downtown Merchants :Association be given per— mission to stage the annual Christmas Parade November 27th under the supervision of Rollf Wadman. This motion was seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote was unanimously carried. The Board give permission to the TAC to use #4 Hose House to construct a float for the parade November 27th. Mr. Gehr presented a petition signed by nine residents living along Old U.S. #49 requesting the name of this road be changed to 01d National Road. This change of name will require action by Ordinance. Mr. Gehr will give a complete legal des— cription of where said road starts and ends so an Ordinance can be prepared for Council°s consideration.
