HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-08-1964 F71 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8, 1964 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in the City Hall in said City, Thursday, October 8, 1964, at the hour of 9:00 o'clock a.m. Mr. Jameson presiding with the following member being present: Mr. Kemper. Mr. Gehr being absent. The following business was had to wit: Mr. Kemper moved the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by Mr. Jameson and on voice vote carried. Mr. Kemper moved the bills be paid, seconded by Mr. Jameson and on voice vote was carried. Mr. Henry Gardner, Wayne County Engineer, was present to discuss the plans for replacing the iron bridge on Washington Avenue. Mr. Kemper moved the Board approve the plans and specifications to construct Wahsington Avenue Bridge as per plans and specifications for Project V.C.#564. This motion was seconded by Mr. Jameson and on voice vote was carried. A Representative of Earlham College appeared before the Board requesting per- mission to install a banner across U.S.#40 near Earlham College that would adver- tise the concert of George Shearing at the college October 30th. Mr. Kemper moved that permission be granted provided the State Highway grants permission. This motion was seconded by Mr. Jameson and on voice vote was carried. The Chief of Police presented the final tabulations of the bids for three new automobiles for the Police Department and recommended the bid of the Rose City Sales in the net sum of $5,370.60. Mr. Kemper moved the recommendation of the Police Chief be accepted, seconded by Mr. Jameson and on voice vote was carried. Chief Stultz said he would set-up a plan to keep a record on the maintenance of each police car in the future. Mr. Charles Howell requested permission to use a loud speaker mounted on an automobile October 9th, 1964 to advertise the Ox Roast that is to be held at Conservation Park October 10th, 1964. Tho Hoard granted permission. Mr. Jameson reported that he had made a study of taking the freeze off the street lighting installations. The future budget has been designed to pay as you go basis and has included funds to pay off the incurred deficits. The Board voted to begin some installations that have been properly processed. The Board approved the installation of two mercury vapor street lights on South IJest E Street, between 19th and 20th Streets. The costs of the current will be $4.00 per month for each.
