HomeMy Public PortalAbout07-23-1964 57 • BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY ,_ Tftursday July 23a 1964 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in the City Hall in said City, Thursday July 23, 1964, at the hour of 9:00 o'clock a.m. Mr. Jameson presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Gehr and Mr. Kemper. The Clerk read the minutes of the.previous meeting. Mr. Kemper moved the minutes be approved, seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote the motion was carried. IIIMr. Gehr moved the claims be allowed, seconded by Mr. Kemper and on voice vote the motion was carried. Mayor Cordell reported that he had received from Councilman Hilligoss a request for street lights on Flatley Road and one in the 1000 block on Boyer Street. Mr. Jameson stated that there will have to be a "freeze" on street lighting install- ations until the deficit of 00,000.00 is paid the Light Plant for the last three months of 1963. Mr. Gehr reported that the boiler at the Street Department garage had been given a hydrostatic test and was found that said boiler can be repaired rather than purchase a new one. Mr. Kemper moved that the Street Commissioner be authorized to repair the boiler. This motion was seconded by Mr. Gehr andon voice vote the motion was carried. The Board approved the request to cut the curb on Whitewater Blvd. for driveways for the new School Administration Bldg. The Board also approved the request of Ralph Wiwi to cut the curb on West Main near lath Street. The Clerk presented proofs of publication of notice showing that on June 29 and July 8, 1964 notice had been duly published in the Richmond Palladium-Item, a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Richmond, of a public hearing on the Assessment Roll for Improvement Resolution No. 1058-1963, Sanitary Sewer South Richmond Division "A" Section (2), and that said Board would receive and hear remonstrances against the amounts assessed against each of the lots on said roll. Mr. Kemper examined the said proof of publication, and found the same to be correct and in order and moved IIIthat such proof of publication be accepted and filed. Mr. Gehr seconded the motion and on voice vote the motion was carried. July 23, 1964 being the date designated for hearing on said Assessment Roll for Im- provement Resolution No. 1058-1963, Sanitary Sewer South Richmond Division "A" Section (2), the Board then took up said Assessment Roll for hearing and consider- ation. No remonstrance of any kind to said Assessment Roll was presented to or filed with the Board. All persons present were heard by the Board on matters pertaining to such assessment and the assessments against their respective lands. The Board then determined that the several lots and lands assessed under the Assessment Roll for Improvement Resolution No. 1058-1963 Division "A" Section (2) are specially benefited by the amounts respectfully assessed against them in said Assessment Roll. After such hearing and determination, Mr. Kemper moved that such Assessment Roll and several assessments shown therein against the lots and lands described therein be confirmed. Mr. Gehr.seconded the motion and on voice vote was carried. The matter of the status of. Dan Mitrione, a former member of the Richmond Police Department was discussed before the Board. The City Attorney presented a letter from Mr. Wilbur F. Dassel, Attorney for the State Lodge F.O.P. setting out an opinion that said Dan Mitrione has not made a contribution to the Police Pension Fund since the year 1960, and that said Dan Mitrione has no status with the Police Department of this City and has no status in the Pension Fund of the Police Department. The Board ordered the letter from Wilbur F. Dassell filed and a copy be given to the Police Chief. The Bureau of Buildings filed a letter dated July 7, 1964 that official notice had been given to the owners of property located at 327 North llth Street, that condemn- ation proceedings on said property were filed with the Board of Works. The Henry. B. Steeg and Associates Inc. submitted the following: 1. N.W. 19th Street Storm Sewer-starting at the end of the 60" storm sewer west of N.W. 19th Street and north of Main Street and extending north to the end of the existing sewer west of N.W. 19th Street and south of N.W. "C" Street. Estimated project cost $45,000.00. Bd. of Wks. July 23, 1964 cont'd. 2. South "G" Street Extension to.South 2$th Street Storm Sewer-starting at the end of the existing storm sewer in South "G" Street east of South 23rd Street and extending to the Henley Road and South "E" Street Area Storm Sewer at south "E" Street and South 28th Street. Estimated project cost 0230,000 00. - The next step will be prepare an ordinance to transfer monies from the Accumulative Storm Sewer Fund to Storm Sewer Construction Fund. The Board authorized the Street Commissioner to receive estimates to re-roof the Street Department Garage.
