HomeMy Public PortalAbout07-09-1964 154 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY JULY 9, 1964 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana met in regular session in the City Hall, Thursday, July 9, 1964 at the hour of 9:00 o'clock a.m. Mr. Jameson. pre- siding, with the following members being present: Mr. Gehr and Mr. Kemper. The following business was had, to-wit: Mr. Kemper moved the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. This motion was seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Kemper moved the claims be allowed. This motion was seconded by Mr. Cehr and on voice vote the motion was carried. • Fire Chief Fredricks requested permission from the Board to send Captain _Sprouse and Captain Walls to a Fire Training school to be held at Ohio State University during Sept- ember 14th through September 18th, 1964. Mr. Kemper moved the request be granted, seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote the motion was carried. Fire Chief Fredricks presented the application and medical report of Joseph Griffin and recommended that he be appointed to the Fire Department as of July 12, 1964, as a pro bationary fireman for one year. Mr. Gehr moved that the Board concur in the Fire Chiefs recommendation. This motion was seconded by Mr. Kemper and on voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. Phillip Thornbury representing the Richmond Noon Optimist Club, appeared before the Board requesting permission from the Board to hold the annual All American Soap Box Derby`:on North "E" Street on Sunday July 19th, 1964. Mr. Kemper moved that the request be granted and that said Optimist Club co-Operate with the Poliee and Fire Departments as a safety precaution. Mr. Gehr seconded this motion and on voice vote the motion was carried. Two members of the 4-H Horse and Pony Club requesting permission from the Board to stage a parade on Main Street, Monday July 27, 1964 at the hour of 7:00 P.M. This group had contacted Capt.Walter Stout with the outline of the parade. Capt.Stout recommended that . permission be granted to this group. Mr. Kemper moved that permission be granted to hold the parade on said date. This motion was seconded by Mr.Gehr and on voice vote the motion was carried. Captain Stout was authorized to contact MLrs. Reidman about the removal of the "No Trucks Allowed" sign on S.W. 18th and "A" Streets. 111 The Board authorized Mr. Burlison, Street Commissioner to obtain the service of the Oberle-Jorde Co.,Inc. and have them make,a hydrostatic test on the boiler at the Street Department garage. This test should give the general condition of the boiler internally. Mr. Carlos ?tiles appeared before the Board requesting permission to build a swimming pool on the lot at 1201 Harris Street. Mr. Gehr examined the plans and specifications and found the same to be in compliance -with the code. .Mr. Gehr recommended that Mr. Wiles be given permission to take out a building permit to build the swimming pool. This motion was seconded by Mr. Kemper and on voice vote the motion was carried. Mr. ;Millard Bowen, representing the Colonial Village, presented a Dedication of a Street. This dedication is recorded in the Plat Book 10, Page 177 of the records of the Recorder of Wayne County, Indiana.. Mr. Gehr examined the dedication and recommended that the Board accept the same and made this in the form of a motion. Mr. Kemper seconded the motion and on voice vote was carried. The Clerk presented proofs of publication printed in the Richmond Palladium-Item, a news- paper of general circulation in the City of Richmond, Indiana, on the dates of June 23 and 29, 1964, that bids would be received on the 9th day of July, 1964 until the hour of 10:00 o'clock a.m.,for the construction of a sanitary sewer on the east side of South 9th Street, from "f"Street to the Boston Pike as authorized in Improvement Resolution No.1065-1964. Mr. Kemper examined the proof of publication and found the same to be in order. Mr. Kemper moved the proofs of publication be filed, seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote the motion was carried. The following bid was received, opened and read allowed. The bid of the Mike Delucio and son in the amount of a5,267.90. Mr. Kemper examined the bid and found the same to be in order. Mr. Gehr said that the bid was under the engineer's estimate and moved . that the bid be accepted. Mr. Kemper seconded this motion and on voice vote was carried. • Mr. Gehr cited the need for the water drainage construction in the area of South 23rd and "G" Streets and South 28th and "E" Streets. The Board authorized Mr. Gehr to pro- ceed with the preparation of plans and specifications for connecting a storm sewer between South 23rd and "G" Streets and South 28th and "E" Streets.. The new connecting link between • • 155 Bd. of Works cont. July 9, 1964 the two present sewers would be approximately 1,900 feet long. Money to pay for this installation would come from the cumulative storm sewer fund. After the final plans are prepared by the Henry B. Steeg and Assoication firm bids will be taken to do the work. All this to be under the master plan for storm sewers for the City. There being no further business presented, on motion duly made, seconded and carried the meeting adjourned.
