HomeMy Public PortalAbout01-17-1964 _ 109 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY JANUARY 17, 1964 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond , Indiana met in the Mayor 's office, in the City Hall , Thursday, January 16th 1964 at the hour of 9:30 a.m. Mr. Jameson presiding with the following members present : Mr. McDaniel and Mr. Gehr. The following busine s was had to wit : . The Clerk read the minutes of the previous meeting. On motion dul made, seconded and carried the minutes were accepted as read . The Claims were allowed paid. It `was noted that Mrs. Arthur VanVleet and Mrs . Joe Crist members of the League of Women Voters were present. Councilman Yount was also present . Mr.Karl Hanning, 1701 South E Street , appeared to complain about a local developer of real estate building houses near his home, tearing up his driveway. He was referred to contact Street Commissioner Burlison for relief of some of the situation. Doug Warfield representing the Jr. Chamber of Commerce appeared be ore the Board to relate a plan of obtaining a used Jet Airplane from t e Government and placing the same in Glen Miller Park for exhibition The plane to be without engines . Many cities throughout the country are displaying such things on public grounds. He was referred to ark Supt . McBride to work out this matter. p - Contracts for the Exterminating of Birds on public property were r - ferred to the City Attorney to reviewsand recommend . Fire Chief Fredricks recommended that nthe applications of Robert E I Johnson and Charles H.Clark be -referred to the Medical Examination and Fireman ' s Pension Board for review and recommendations . McDaniel moved that the recommendation be accepted , seconded by Gehr and a voiee vote was unanimously carried. The Clerk was instructed to write a letter to the City Plan Commission requesting that they make a study of the city' s need of the property located on the Northeast Corner of South 6th & A Streets for a pub is parking lot . This Board will with-hold further action until the P an Commission makes a recommendation. - • Mr. Gehr stated that he and Captain Walter Stout had made some sur eys to the need of this alley to be retained . The traffic count over certain period showed 44 cars in one hours time . The Sanitary District use the -alley for pick ups. The Board decided to call in a repre.ent- ative of the Petitioners to attend the next Board Meeting and be- h-ard . The following correspondence was referred to the City Attorney: Mrs . Betty Gardner, 412 South 9th St . ,Richmond , Indiana Mrs. E.L.Kauffman, 3402 Backmeyer Road , Richmond , Indiana William J. and Lois I. Benton Andy Bandura _ Martha Ann Brewer Richard E.Clapp All the above were suits against the City. Mr. Gordon E.Riddle complaint of Hamptons Texaco Station located 515 N.W. 5th Street of manufacturing horse trailers in a non-conforming zone was referred to Mr. Hawkins , Building Inspector to investigate and report to this Board .
