HomeMy Public PortalAbout01-09-1964 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY JANUARY 9, 1964 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond , Indiana) met in regular session in the Mayor's office in the City Hall, Thursday, January 9th, 1964 at the hour of 9 : 30 a.m. Mr Jameson presiding with the following members present: Mr. McDaniels and Mr. Gehr. The following business was had to wit : The minutes of the previous meeting were read. McDaniels moved that the rosters of the Police Department and Fire -Department for the years 1963 and 1964 be attached to and of public record of the minutes of January 2 , 1964, seconded by Gehr and on voice vote carried. It was noted that Councilmen Paust and Yount were in attendance. The Board allowed the claims . Mr. Robert Smith appeared before the board in behalf of Mr. Chavis , whose petition to the Fire Department was taken under. advisement . Fire Chief Fredricks presented the report of the Richmond Fireman 's Pension Fund and also the Medical Report. The Pension Fund Board unanimously voted not to accept the application of Mr. Chavis on basis of findings in his Medical Report . This report showed a spot on his lung. McDaniels moved that the application of Mr. Chavis be turned down, seconded by Gehr and on voice vote was unanimously carried . On recommendation of Fire Chief Fredricks the Board approved the pro- motion of Harold G. Murray from Probationary Fireman to that of Regular Fireman as of January 7th, 1964. Fire Chief Fredricks reported estimated fire loss for 1963 at $77,950 for buildings ; $17,950 . loss for contents for a grand total loss of $95,900.00. Eugene Taylor appeared and requested a permit to use dynamite on the Richmond Auto Parts property on North 12th Street . He was referred to Captain Wadman of the Fire Department to investigate and report to the City Controller. The board approved the Arthur Richards Tree Removal Company to con- tinue to work under the same agreement until a new agreement is pre- . pared by the City Attorney. Councilman Paust agreed to make a survey of the Council Chambers and see what could be done about giving the room a "new look". His re- , port to be given to this board for review. McDaniel moved this board approve the sale\of real estate located near the area of South M Street and U.S. 27 to Annabelle Browning for the sum of $350.00 as set out by the appraiser. .The City Clerk to pre- pare anc'Ordinance for Council ' s approval . Declaratory Resolution #16-1963 to vacate a part of the Alley running 111 in an easternly direction between North 7th and North 8th Streets was presented . On motion made by Gehr, seconded by McDaniel and unanimously carried the Declaratory Resolution #16-1963 was taken under advise- ment. Mr. Earlywine representing the Roger Bird Exterminating Company pre= sented proposals to exterminate birds from public buildings and bridges.
