HomeMy Public PortalAbout01-02-1964 106 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY JANUARY 2 , 1964 The newly appointed Board of Public Works and Safety met and formed the following slate of officers : Mr. McDaniel moved that Mr. Henry Jameson, City Controller be appointed President for the year 1964, seconded by Mr.Stanley Gehr and on voice vote was carried. Mr. Jameson abstained his vote . Mr. Jameson moved that Mr. Marlin Mc Daniel be appointed President Pro-tem for the year 1964, seconded by Mr. Gehr and on voice vote was carried. Mr. McDaniel abstained his vote. Mr. Jameson proceeded to call the meeting to order for business . Mayor Edward Cordell appointed Ather J.Reeg, City Clerk, to serve as Secretary of the Board. Mayor Cordell requested that all Department Heads take a physical in- ventory of all equipment in their department and turn the same into the City Controllers Office. Mr. Jameson submitted unpaid claims from the Light Plant for the months of October and November 1963 in the sum of $23,000.00. He will invest- igate the proper proceedure to secure this amount and present the form at the next meeting. Fire Chief Fredricks appeared before the Board and reported the following:.. The applications of Larry H. Boswell, Herbert A.Chavis and Gordon N. Williams for Probationary Firemen as received and acted upon December 19, 1963 were reviewed by the Board. Chief Fredricks reported that Gordon. N. Williams did not pass the physical examination that was required. The applications of Larry H. Boswell and Herbert A. Chavis were not completely filled out as required . Mr. McDaniel moved that the application of Gordon N. Williams be turned down for failing to pass the physical examination and that the applications of Larry H. Boswell and Herbert A. Chavis be further investigated by the Fire Chief and his recommendation come before the Board when the said investigation is completed. This motion was seconded by Mr. Gehr and carried on voice vote. Chief Fredricks to notify the subjects of this action. On recommendation of Fire Chief Fredricks the Board approved the appoint- ment of Roderick Rohe and Howard Sprouse to the rank of Captain on the Fire Department as of January 1, 1964. On recommendation of Fire Chief Fredricks the Board approved the plan of having all the Battalion Chiefs and Captains as of January 1, 1964 be placed on a 1 year probationary period in rank only. The Board authorized the following Petty Cash Warrants to be drawn : Parking Meter Dept. $10.00 Chief of Police 10000 City Clerk's Office 100 .00 City Controllers Office 50.00 Barrett Bond 10.00 • Chief of Police William Stultz anpeared before the Board and outlined ; the rank and file of the personnel of the Police Department . a ^i.7 continued January 2 , 1964. The Board authorized the City Clerk to keep a calendar on the Court and Council Chambers so that there will not be conflicts in occupation of said room. Mr. McDaniels presented a notice from Superior Court that suit No. 3514 : Ogden vs City of Richmond was pending and would be properly taken care of by the City Attorney.
