HomeMy Public PortalAbout12-05-1963 101 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY DECEMBER 5 , 1963 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session with City Attorney Cecere, presiding- All members present - The following business was had to wit : The Board on the recommendation of Fire Chief Klotz, instructed the Clerk to inform the Richmond Water Works Corporation to give immediate consider- ation toward the installation of fire protection for the Richwood Sub- Idivision, National Road West , as 25 houses are nearly completed. Police Chief Conyers recommended Police Officers Richard Shoemaker and Donald Kolentus, be appointed regular Patrolmen having completed . the one year probationary period. The Board approved the appointments - Officer Shoemaker as of December 1, 1963 and Officer Kolentus as of December 5, 1963. Hnery Blankership, 321 S. W. "D" Street , filed a claim with the Board for repairs to his automobile, caused by a hole in the street at South llth and "C". The Board took the matter under advisement . The Clerk presented proof of publication that this date had been set to hear persons interested in condemnation proceedings filed by the Board to obtain easements and right-of-ways in Berry Field for a surface water drainage project. Appearing before the Board were : Attorneys Bowne and. Schussler and propertyyowners , Brown, Barnes , Commons- and- Griswold, After a discussion on the matter, the Board took the project under advisement until Steegs Associates , designers of the drainage system could review the area and consider the objections and suggestions offered at this hearing. IThe Board confirmed Improvement Resolution No. 1061-1963, The construct- ion of a Sanitary Sewer on Porterfield. Ave.. and instructed the Clerk to advertise for bidders for the project, to be opened Decgmbera19, 1963. Fire Chief Klotz filed a notice of suspension from duty with the Board for Fireman Joe Brennan. Attorney McFeeley appeared for Mr. Brennan . and requested a public hearing. The Board set Thursday December 12, 1963 at 10;00 AM for the hearing, in which Fire Chief Klotz will present the evidence against Fireman Brennan. (suspension date November 30, 1963) Captain Harvey Noble appeared before the Board concerning his suspension from the Fire Department N vember 30, 1963 for conduct unbecoming an officer. Mr. Noble , according to Fire Chief Klotz left his post for several hours without notifying proper superiors. The Board voted to demote Captain Noble to Fireman First Class and a 20 day suspension without pay, effective as of November 30, 1963, Councilman Marino reported a compaint that the sidewalks on North 12th St . in front of the new Townsend Center building was in bad condition, referred to the Street Dept.
