BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
JULY 18, 1963
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session with City
Attorney Cecere presiding. All members were present. The following
business was had to wit :
The Clerk presented proof of publication that this date had been set
to hear persons interested in Improvement Resolution No. 1054-1963,
"A Resolution to construct_a concrete alley; the first alley north of
Main Street to North "B" Street between North 16th and North 17th
Streets". Seventeen persons concerned with the Resolution appeared
before the Board to voice their opinion as to the need for the im-
provement. City Controller Tiffany moved that the matter be taken „
under advisement, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. a The Board in-
structed the Clerk to inform the Police Department to restrict parking
in said alley.
The Board refused to grant permission to block off two parking meters
in front of Bullerdick's furniture store on South 6th Street to park
a truck, as requested by a company official, for a promotional sales
project. This is against Board policy.
The Board instructed the engineering department to furnish a legal
description of a piece of City&owned property at the end of the 20th
Century Bridge & Richmond Avenue adjacent to the Rogers Pest Control
for appraisal and possible sale.
The Board approved the recommendation of Fire Chief Klotz to order
installed. by the Richmond Water Works Corporation the following fire
hydrants :
5 - East of South 16th and "L" St. to South 23rd and "L" St..
1 - South 20th south of "L" St.
2.-. South 21st St . below South "L" St.
2-.a South 22nd St. south of South "L" St .
4 - South 23rd St . south of South "L" St.
Earlham College Students , Linda Burris and Wilbur Linder, in conjunc-
tion with their survey of undesirable houses, submitted a list of 33
houses that are in bad condition.
The Clerk presented proof of publication that this date had been
set to open sealed bids for the construction of a sewer for surface
water drainage in the Berry Field Area. The proofs were accepted as
in order and ordered filed. The following bids were received and opened :
Vogel Construction Co. $139,000.00
DeBolt tt " 73,565.00
John Weitzel " " 135,600.00
Curry " " 99,000.00
City Controller Tiffany moved that the bids be taken under advisement,
seconded by City Engineer Sherick.
No bids were received for a police crusier that was advertised for this
date .
There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
