HomeMy Public PortalAbout07-11-1963 75 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY JULY 11, 1963 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session with City Attorney Cecere presiding. All members were present. The Following business was had to wit : A group of residents of South 21st and "L" Street appeared before the Board concerning sanitary sewer and fire protection for that area. They were informed that plans for a sewer were being processed. Fire Chief Klotz was instructed to locate hydrants. The Board approved a request by Donald Lindley, representing the Rich- mond Exchange Club, for a parade on Main Street at 1 :00 PM September 5, 1963 in conjunction with the Kelly-Miller circus that the Club is sponsoring. The Board instructed Police Chief Conyers to investigate complaints of a garage being used for business in a residential district at 2005 South 15th Street. John Reed, Richmond High School principal, appeared before the Board concerning the erection of new flood lights for the football field. Three poles are to be placed on the outside fence on Whitewater Blvd. The oard instructed City Engineer Sherick to ascertain the ownership of the ground (city or school) . Building Commissioner Sligar reported that his office has 12 buildings under condemnation proceedings and that all owners have been notified 111 to appear before the Board July 25, 1963 concerning the matter. The Board awarded the contract to raze two (2) buildings; one at 405 North "D" St.. and one at 1641 South 6th Street; to Ford Roan for $399.00. The Board of Works received a letter from F. A. Kline, Jr. , Engineer of Traffic Signal for the State of Indiana Highway Commission, concer- ning the traffic signals at 16th and 18th Streets and National Road West. The letter informed the Board that the signal at 16th would not be removed and the State would furnish the materials for a new signal at 18th and National; as the standard arrangement of the State the City will supply the labor for the installation. The Board agreed on the arrangement and instructed City Controller Tiffany to notify Mr. Kline to proceed with plans and specifications for the installation. The Board approved the use of Courtesy Tickets which give 12 minutes addition parking time supplied by the Downtown Merchants Association. The Board approved a curb cut of 20' for a private drive at 2414 North West "B" Street requested by Charles Yount. The Board approved a curb cut of 26 ' requested by Laberta Scott for a 111 private drive at 1528 West Main Street.
