HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-13-1963 7,0 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY JUNE 13, 1963 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session with City Attorney Cecere presiding. All members were present. The following business was had to wit : Mrs. James Egan, PTA President and Miss Juana Schneck, Principal of West- view School appeared before the Board with other women residing in the area of 16th Street and National Road West concerning the removal of the traffic signal there as proposed by the State Highway Department in their moder- nization of signal light program. The Board reported that they would take the matter up with the Highway Department, and also instructed the Police Department to make a traffic survey of that intersection. Carl D. Lash, executive secretary of Wernle Children's Home, appeared before the Board to request permission for the construction of a swimming pool at the Home. The Board approved the request, subject to the contrac- tor's complying with the Bureau of Buildings code. The Board approved a recommendation by Traffic Officer Koons to install a stop sign on Reeveston Road at Henley Road, and to install stop and yield signs on South "B" from Henley Road to 32nd Street. Police Chief Conyers reported that the bicycle licensing program would start July 1, 1963, City Engineer Sherick reported that his office has completed plans and specifications for the itprovement of the CSouth "G" Street Bridge and will advertise for bids to be opened by the Board of Works July 3, 1963. The Board of Public Works and Safety approved a request to hold a parade from 12th and Main Street to the Municipal Baseball Park by the Tarum Shrine Club, Saturday June 29, 1963, subject to Police Traffic Division supervision. The Board approved a request by the Wayne County Tuberculosis Association to park the mobile chest x4ray unit at the 8th Street entrance to Knollen- berg's Department Store from June 21st until June 26th. The Police Traffic Division was notified of this action. Com issioner of Buildings , D.C. Sligar, reported condemnation proceedings against the property owned by William L. Hughes at 304 North 4th St. , stating that the buildings on the property were unsanitary, un-safe, unfit for human habitation and a fire hazard.
