HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-23-1963 6 6 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY MAY 23 , 1963 The Board of public Works and Safety met in regular session with City Attorney Cecere presiding. All members were present. The following business was had to wit: Charles Coleman and George Lahr and others residing on South 18th St. appeared before the Board concerning the installation of the new type mercury vapor street lights on South 18th from Main Street to South "A" St . Councilman Henn representing the group spoke for them stating that they did not wish to have the lights installed, and asked the Board to have the order to the Richmond Power and Light rescinded. Attorney Ross Harrington spoke for Mrs. Webb, owner of four properties in the block, and said that the lights would damage the trees and lessen the value of the properties. The Board called in to the meeting Robert Rees , engineer for the Richmond Power and Light , for a discussion on the matter. It was decided that the lighting in that location os not adequate, but the Board will rescind the order for the installation of mercury vapor lights , and will investigate the possibility of an improved lighting over that which is now in use. Henry Werner, 1635 Liberty Avenue, appeared before the Boardto register complaints of the bad condition of South "L" and South "P" Streets , the matter referred to the engineering department for study. The Board approved a recommendation by Police Chief Conyers to restrict parking for race day, May 30, 1963 - 200 & 300 block National Road West and East third street to East seventeenth street (south side) from 11:00 AM to 8 :00 PM. The Board approved an order for two streets lights on south "C" Street between South 9th & South llth St . and one st. light on the Abington Pike south of South "C" St . , and instructed the Clerk to inform the Richmond Power and Light. The Board approved a request from the Marathon Oil Co. for two (2) 30° curb cuts for driveways at 1821. Chester Blvd. subject to State Highway approval. The Board approved a request for a curb cut by Faye Winters at 419 North "D11 St . of 301 for a private drive. The Board scheduled Thursday, June 6, 1963 to hear several different companies discuss their proposals to prepare the Master Plan for the City The meetings will start at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers; .
