HomeMy Public PortalAbout12-13-1962 43 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY DECEMBER 13 , 1962 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session with City Attorney Cecere presiding. All members were present. The following business was had to wit :- The Clerk presented proof of publication that this date had been set to open bids for a 1963 Automobile (Station Wagon) for the use of the Street Department, the proofs were accepted as in order. The bids were: Kurdys Chevrolet - Biscayne 4 Door - - $2,152.57 Raper Sales , Inc . Dodge 4 Door - - 2,072 .00 City_Engineer Sherick moved that the bid be awarded to Raper Sales Inc, their bid being low and as per specifications , seconded by City Controller Tiffany. The Clerk presented proof of publication that this date had been set to open bids for the construction of curbs , gutters and pavement on south 8th Street (east) from South "L" to South 11M" Street , the proofs were accepted and ordered filed. One hid was receibed from the Magaw Construction Co. The bid was $7,305 .00, City Controller Tiffany moved that the bid be taken under advisement, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. Mr. Robert Elliott, representative of Blue Cross-Blue Shield appeared before the Board and reported an increase in rates effective Feb- ruary 5, 1963. Individual will go up 470 and family $1.19. The Board approved a request by Police Chief Conyers to paint curbs yellow and sign de-exceleration lanes in conjested areas, referred to Captain Stout, Traffic Department . The Board approved a redammendation by Fire Chief Klotz to appoint Donald Clack as aregular fireman effective December 11, 1962 , having served the one year probationary period. Captain Stout , Police Traffic Division reported a meeting of the Street Lighting Committee of the Common Council , and have set out recommen- dations for next years street lighting program that will be submitted to the Board of Public Works and Safety. Captain Stout reported that arimeeting has been arranged with the offi- cials of the C & 0 and Penn Railroads and the Ridhmond Power and Light concerning the installation of yellow lights at crossings. The board approved Assessment Roll No. 1049-1962 , the construction of curbs, gutters and sidewalks on Oakland Street from "P" to "Q" Street, and set January 3, 1963 for a public hearing for property owners concerning the assessment . City Engineer Sherick reported that the Henry B. Steegs associates have submitted plans for the construction of a sewer to cross US 40 from the Garwood Road to service the Holiday Inn Motel and other properties on the North side of US 40.
