HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-29-1962 THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY NOVEMBER 29, 1962 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session with City Attorney Cecere presiding. All members present . The following business was had to wit:• ' Proof of publication was presented that this date had been set for a public hearing on Improvement Resolution Not 1052-1962 , "THE CONSTRUC* TION OF CURBS AND GUTTERS AND PAVEMENT OF THE STREET - FROM SOUTH "L" TO SOUTH "M" STREET ON SOUTH 8TH STREET(EAST) , the proofs were acdepted and ordered filed . No persons remonstrating against the Resolution the Clerk was instructed to alvertise for bidders for the project. - December 13, 1962 The Board referred a complaint of inadequate st. lighting in the Souht 10th Street Park area to the Richmond, Power and Light for an estimate and recommendation. The Board instructed Police Chief Conyers to have the traffic department check signs that obstruct traffic signals at the intersectionaat North- west 5th & "L" St. The Board approved a recommendation of Fire Chief Klotz to appoint Robert Crawley, as a regular fireman, having completed the one year probationary period, - effectobe Novemver 22 , 1962 . The Board approved a recommendation of Fire Chief Klotz to order the Richmond Water Works Copporation to install a fire hydrant at the entrance to the Eastgate Shopping Center on the west side of the Garwood Road. The Board instructed the Engineering Department to inspect all the Bridges in the City and prepare a report to submit to the County Commissioners. The Board instructed the Traffic Department to remove parking on the south side of the National Road in the 200 - 300 blocks (Nat ' l Rd. West) Robert Rees of the Enfineering Department of the Richmond Power and Light appeared before the Board with a report of his surbey of the lighting at railroad crossings. Mr. Rees said that yellow lights have been found to be more efficient as a safety factor at crossings and would be installed in agreeable with the railroad companies. The Board instructed the Street Department to make the necessary impro- vement to Oakland Street. The Board instructed the Engineering Department of inspect Parry Street, as to the condition of the curbs and gutters.
