HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-27-1962 33 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKSiND SAFETY SEPTEMBER 27. 1962 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session with City Attorney CEcere presiding - All members present. The following business was had to wit : Mrs. Esther Balton and Mrs. H. Sheppard,residing on Oakland Avenue , appeared before the Board with complaints that the sidewalk being con- structed would be higher than their walks, and that a drain was needed at the intersection of South "Q" and Oakland Avenue. City Engineer Sherick said that ,the sidewalks had been restaked to not be more than 3 inches above the walks and that a drain will be installed. (Improve- ment Resolution No. 1049-1962) Jack Robinson,1900 South 14th St. , appeared before the Board, concerning ' the improvement of South 14th St. between "T" and Short Streetsi Mr. Robinson was informed to circulate a petition to residents that would • benefit from the improvement end submit it to the Board for procedure under the Barrett Law. Attorney George Tripp, representing Merle Hudelson at the hearing set to- day concerning condemnation predeedings filed by the Commissioner of F,, Buildings against Hudelson's property at 405 North "D" St. , appeared be- fore the Board to ask an extension of time, for the possiblity of sale of the property, The Board granted an extension until the next Board meeting Thursday, October 4, 1962, and that if sold the new owner submit plans for the improvement of the buildings . IKenneth Paust, civic project chairman -for the Richmond Junior Chamber of Commerce, appeared before the Board, concerning the constmuction of a "BERLIN WALL" across Main Street, between 8th andOth Streets, to empha- size "Freedon of Movement". The wall to be up 3 or 4 days, and manned by the National Guard. The toard gave approval for the project subject to proper insurance, approval by the State Highway Dept. and the Traffic Dept, the date has not been set, but it iskxpected to be early in November. The Clerk presented proof of publication that this date had been set to hear persons interested in Declaratory Resolution No. 12-1962. The Vacation of land at Southwest 20th and "Ad Streets. The proofs were - accepted and ordered filed. No One appeared in remonstrance against the Resolution. City Controller Tiffany moved that the Resolution be confir— med, seconded ,by City Engineer Sherick. The Board intrusted the Clerk to set the date of October 4, 1962 for a hearing to be held for condemnation proceedings filed against the pro- perty of Merle Hudelson at 1641 South 6th St. , at 9:00 AM at the regular Board of Works meeting. The Board approved the final plat in the Crestdale 5th Addition. IThe Board accepted with regret the resignation of Police Officer Claude Hunt. Officer Hunt has served the Police Force since May 6th, 1959. Resignation to be effective October 3, 1962. The Clerk was instructed to write a letter of appreciation to officer.
