HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-13-1962 1 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY SEPTEMBER 13. 1962 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session with City Attorney Cecere presiding and members Sherick and Tiffany present. The following business was had to-wit : Mts. Froster Ruby of 308 South "Kg' St, appeared before the Board and asked for a street light at South r!K" between Liberty andSouth 5th St . The Board ordered the Clerk to check with the Light Plant about A light at this location. Mr. James Loer gave the Board a letter for W.H. Joyner & Son Inc. re- garding a bid for the storm sewer at South 16th and 6outh "G" Sts. The letter advised them of the City's intent to award them the contract when funds were properly appropriated. The Board of Works ordered the License and Permit of the Rite Way Cab Co. to be revoked until such time as the proper insurance coverage is provided. Councilman Yount told the Board that he had complaints about the raise in fare of the remaining cab company. The subject was discussed and action was deferred at this time. Building Commissioner Sligar reported that the property of Mrs. Silli- man at 527 North 19th St. is in bad condition. The Board ordered Mr. Sligar to give her 60 days in which to comply with the law. Building Commissioner Sligar reported th=t the orders of the Adminis- istration Building Co. had been complied with at the Midget Stadium and that it has been' reopened. William Adler of the Parking Meter Dept . asked that the meter posts which are broken off be removed. The Board so ordered. Police Chief Conyers asked the Board permission to send Donald Knoob and himself to the Institute of Industrial Health at Cincinnati, Ohio November 12-17. The Board gave permission. Police Chief Conyers gave the Board a letter from Robert Smith submitting his resignation from the Police Dept. The Board accepted with reluc- tance and asked that a letter be sent thanking him for his services. Police Chief Conyers asked for a transfer of funds in the amount of $500.00 from L-1 to L-13. The Board gave permission and asked that an ordinance be sent to Council. Captain Stout of the Traffic Division and Mr. Klein of the State High- way Department appeared at the Board Meeting and reported on traffic lights on State Highways in Richmond. He stated that he would ship material this week for Pearl St . and Northwest 5th St. lights. The Board awarded the contract for the sewer on South 5th St. and "E" St. to DeLucio & Son for $2 ,980.00 for Resolution #1050-1962. The Improvement Resolution for the pavement of the alley between 5th & 6th running from "D" south to "E'_' was passed. The hearing will be Oct. 11. 1962 at 9:00 AM. City Engineer Sherick will attend the American Public Works Association Convention in New Orleans September 30-October 3, 1962 . -There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
