BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
June 28, 1962
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City
Hall with City Attorney Cecere presiding: All members present : The
following business was had to wit:
The Clerk presented proof of publication that this date had been set
to open sealed bids for 35 parking meters for the City owned South
5th-6th Street parking lot . The proofs were accepted and ordered
filed. City Controller Tiffany moved to accept the low bid of the
Duncan Parking Meter Co. of $48.50 each, seconded by City EngineerII
Sherick. 111
The Board approved a request from the Noon Optimist Club to block off
North "E" Street from Glen Miller Park to North 20th Street , July 29, 196�
to run the Annual Opti-Derby, subject to their co-operation with the
Police Traffic Department.
The Board approved the recommendation of Police Chief Conyers to appoint
Margret Jane Good, 1616 Central Drive as a Meter Maid, effective July
2, 1962.
The Board adopted preliminary plans for Improvement Resolution No. 1049-
1962, the construction of curbs and gutters on Oakland Street from
South "P" to South "Q" Street , and set July 19, 1962 for a public hearing,
The Clerk was instructed to notify the Property owners.
The Board adopted preliminary plans for Improvement Resolution No 1050-
1962, the construction of a Sanitary sewer from South 5th & "E" Street
to the C & 0 Railroad (north) and set July 10 , 1962 for a public hearing,
the Clerk was instructed to notify the property owners.
The Board approved and signed the Charles Second Addition Plat .
The Board approved the reest of General Telephone Co. o install
a second booth South ofq�i
Main St . on /th Street , near Philips Drug
Store.
The Board instructed the Street Department to paint center lines and
arrows' on Main Street from 8th to 9th Street .
Plans to cut back the radius at the Northwest & Southwest corners of
3rd and Main Street , were given to Street Commissioner Laurence.
The Board instructed the Street Department to prepare the City owned lot
at North 8th & "C" Street for the planting of grass and shrubbery, by
grading and putting on top soil.
City Dog Warden Francis Daniels, submitted a six months report on his
activity, the report stated that he made 420 investigations an complaints
and destroyed 30 dogs on the spot .
