HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-14-1962 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY June 14, 1962 The Board of P blic Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City"Attorney Cecere presiding: All members present: Thy following business was had to wit : A letter of resignation as a meter maid. from Dorothy Benoit was pre- sented to the Board by Police Chief Conyers, as she is moving from the City. The Board accepted the resignation with regret and instructed the Clerk to write Mrs Benoit a letter of appreciation for her services to the department and the City. Police Chief Conyers submitted the following promotions and assign- ments in the Police Department personnel: Sgt . Paul Martin - - - to Captain of Uniform Division--Effective June 20, 1962 Det . Bert Russell-- to Captain of Detective Division- effective June 20, 1962. Pat. Dan Harper---- to Sgt. of Uniform Division effective June 20, 1962, Det . Donald Strahn- as lab. technician effective June 20, 1962 Pat . Don Knoob to Detective effective June 27 , 1962 Pat . Louis Gibbs----as Juvenile Officer effective July 1, 1962 City Controller Tiffany moved to approve the recommendations as submitted seconded by City Engineer Sherick. A presentive of United Photographic Studios of America Inc. appeared before the Board, concerning house to house soliciting to take pictures, the Board unanimously voted to reject the proposal as being in violation of Ordinance No. 1656-1957 (transient peddlers & Hawkers) . The Board authorized two (2) fire hydrants to be installed by the Richmond Water Works Corp. in the Earlham South Sub-Division - First Addition. The Board approved a request by Fire Chief Klots to send 10 men to the Institute on Patient Evacuation and Fire Fighting Technique to be held at Ball State, in Muncie June 18-19-20 , five of the men will attend on their off days) . The Board approved the attendance at the American Public Works Association Conference at Indianapolis, Indiana June 20-21 for City Engineer Sherick- Assistant City Engineer Blankeenship and City Controller Tiffany. The Board approved Assesment Roll No 1043-1961, for a sanitary sewer in south llth street from south "0" street , north 375 ft . and set July 5, 1962 for a public hearing. •' „ City Engineer Sherick submitted final plans for the revamping of the south 5-6 street city owned parking lot , and instructed the Clerk to advertise for sealed bids to be opened July 5, 1962. City Attorney Cecere reported that he has been in conference with the Richmond Water Works Corporation, concerning the lease of the reserviori for recreational purposes, and that further meeting would be held to work out the details. The Board approved the installation of Street Lights on Southwest "H" St between Abington Pike and Southwest 5th St . (3) and (1) on Southwest 18th Street between "E" & "G" St .
