HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-17-1962 11: BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY MAY 17, 1962 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City Controller Tiffany presiding: City Attorney Cecere absent - The following business was had to wit: City Controller Tiffany moved that the low bid of Dea Meadows Ford be accepted for a car for the use of the Police Department, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. The bid was $1348.00 plus trade-in of car #108. Robert Allen, Richmond Property Company, appeared before the Board, concerning the construction of a sewer on the property of Mr. Daggy on the South side of Main Street west of the Marsh Super Market, the matter referred to the City Engineering Department for study and estimate. < The Board approved the following curb cuts: 1312-1314 East Main Street - 30 ' - subject to State Highway approval - Bus Terminal 1155 Harris St. - 14' - private drive - Louis Kovach • 2115 Reeveston Road 16 ' - private drive - Oberle vesidence_ . Complaints concerning the 2 Hr. no parking from 8 AM to 4 PM in 'tie 1500 block of North "E" Street were referred to Captain Stout and City Controller Tiffany for study. The Board approved a recommendation by Captain Stout to install stop - signs at 18th & 19th and "J" Street - traffic to atop for "J" Street. Parking restrictions were ordered on the west side of Northwest "E" & Sheridan a 3 parking spaces North of "E" and on the west side of No. 10th 100 feet on the curve at the intersection of North "F" Street. Mary Ellen Hunt 25 Northwest 18th Street, appeared Before, the Board with a complaint about dust from the unimproved alley at the rear of her hom0 referred to City Controller Tiffany for investigation. A conplaint of excessive smoke from the Wescott Hotel, Leland Hotel and the Home Laundry, signed by 12 residents living in the area was referred to the Fire Department for study. A complaint of a house in Glen Court, on North 22nd St. next to the railroad, as being unfit for human habitation, was referred to the Building Commissioner Sligar for investigation. A complaint, concerning a sign abstructing the view of traffic at the Sunoco Service Station on National Road East, was referred -to Build- ing Commissioner Sligar for study as to violation to the zoning code. �l/✓ Mr. Emerson manager of the, me Store, moving to the building formerly occupied by the Brown Motor Co. appeared before the Baord, concerning the -relocation of parking meters and a Street light that obstructs the entrance to the parking .lot, the matter referred to the parking meter department and the Richmond Power and Light. r A request for a Street Light on Southwest 18th St. , by the Gateway Builders, was referred to the Richmond Power and Light for recomm- endation and estimate. The Board adopted the following schedule for participation in storm sewer projects constructed by private developers: SIZE OF SEWER PORTION TO BE PAID BY THE CITY _ 12 inch None 15-18 " 50% of excess cost over 12 Inch 21-36 " 66V/3% of excess cost over size needed for area 42-6o " 75% " Over 60" - 80% °' Developer shall furnish the City a certified statement of actual cost and a statement from, the contractor as to the cost of smaller size to serve only the immediate area.
