HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-03-1962 9 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY May 3. 1962 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City Attorney Cecere presiding - All members present - The Following business was had to wit: City Controller Tiffany moved that the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. The Board granted approval for the construction of a swimming pool to contract, or Ralph Wiwi subject to compliance with pool regulations at 918 South 18th Place. The Clerk was instructed to prepare a Declaratory Resolution to be adopted by the Common Council to have the judge of Wayne Circuit Court appoint appraisers for City owned property surrounded by land owned by Earlham College, for the purpose of selling the property. Councilman Yount reported that the mailbox post at the home of Dr. Wilcoxen was below the level of Waterfalls Road making it difficult for the mail man, referr- ed to Street Commissioner Lawrence. The Board approved a request by City Engineer Sherick to attend the Urban Transportation Regional Conference in Chicago, Ill. May 10-11, 1962. The Board received::a letter from L. H. Williams, attorney for the Gateway Shopping Center requesting the City to take the necessary steps to have water lines installed by September 15, 1962. The Board received a petition for street lights by residents in the vicinity of the Abington Pike and Southwest 5th Street for more lighting in the area, referred to the Richmond Power and Light for estimate and recommendation. The Board approved a recommendation by Police Chief Conyers to send four (4) police officers to the Drunkometer and Breathalzer School for a screening examination May 18 and to take the training course June 4-10 to be held at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. The Clerk was instructed to notify the Citizens Mutual Insurance Co. to repair the sidewalk damaged in the construction of their parking lot on South 8th St. Mayor Cutter reported complaints of containers being thrown on streets and yards in the vicinity of schools from purchases from ice cream sales trucks, re- ferred to Captain Woolf for investigation. The Board.instructed Street Commis&loner Lawrence to inspect the alley between 15th & 16th Street and Between train and South "A" Street, reported in very bad condition. Street Commissioner Lawrence reported the following streets would be covered by HotMix: Richmond, Avenue - From Northwest 5th Street to Johns-Manville Easthaver Avenue From Main St. to National Road West 7th Street From Peacock to National Road 16th Street Ftom Main St. to South "E" Street.
