BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY APRIL 19, 1962 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City Attorney Cecere presiding.- All members present - The following business was had to wit: The Board gave permission to the Y-teen Club of the Richmond Senior High School to plant flowers ara shrubs in the south traffic circle on.Whitewater Blvd. as an annual project. City Engineer Sherick reported that he is making plans for the rearrangement of parking spaces on the South 5th & 6th Street City owned parking lot. The Board instructed Street Commissioner Lawrence to start a regular street sweeping schedule on Monday April 30, 1962. -The Street Commissioner was instructed to repair the north entrance to the North 10th Street City owned parking lot. The Board set the date of May 10th, 1962 to open sealed bids for the construct- ion of a sanitary sewer on Northwest 7th Street and Richmond Avenue. The Board approved a request from J. Robert Hood to remove a parking meter at 14 South 3rd Street as it interfers with the entrance to a private drive. The Board approved a curb cut of 10 ft. at 1010 Southwest 1st Street. The Clerk was instructed to' prepare an Ordinance for the appropriation of $3200. for the purchase of a short block engine for the fire department. The Board authorized the City Controller Tiffany to advertise for bids for the purchase of 35 new parking meters. - Mr. Beeson of the Mutual Readers League appeared before the Board in regards to Ordinance No. 1656-1957, concerning the sale of magazines. City Attorney ex- plained the application of the Ordinance as to his situation. The =minted Board awarded Russell Commons $65.00 on a complaint of damage to his fence in Berry Field at the 'time of the construction of the sanitary sewer. Damage was caused by materials being dumped against it. District Traffic Engineer Frank Vulkovits and District Signal Engineer Floyd Kline, Jr. of the Indiana Highway Department discussed traffic problems with the Board. They said materials were on the way for installation of an over- head traffic signal with mast arm for 3rd and Main Streets, Traffic light would be installedat Northwest 5th and Pearl Streets and that under study was a modernization plan for various other signals at West 5th and National Road, 800 block on main street, etc. Mayor Roland H. Cutter announced his committee for I!'unicipal Improvements as follows: F. Marino & C. Youngflesh from Common Council W. Kyle & H. Clary from Plan Commission A.Cecere, J. Tiffany & L. Sherick from the Board of Works The Board approved a request from the DAR to sell flowers on Main St. May 11 &12.
