BOFtRD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY MARCH_" 29,: 1962,' The Board of Public Works and Safety Mmet in regular session in City Hall with City Attorner presiding - City Engineer Sherick was Absent - The following business was had to wit: City Controller Tiffany moved that the reading of. the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Attorney Cecere. Attorney J. R. Kemper submitted a proposal to the Board to vacate a portion of a public alley, the first alley south of Parry Street - being a strip approx. 12' wide and 120' long, the proposal was taken under advisementc.to study. The Board approved a request by Police Chief Conyers to set up a display booth in the City Building ( s at the home show) for the observance of National Police Week, May 13-19 with open house May 13 and May 18. The Board approved a request by Police Chief Conyers to attend the conference of Indiana Police Chiefs at Evansville, Indiana, June 24-27. The Board approved a recommendation by Fire Chief K_iots to appoint Elmer Wilmot as a regular fireman, having served the one year probationary period. Effective March 27, 1962. The Board approved a recommendation by William Addler, Parking Meter Department to change the time limit on 16 meters on the East side of South 3rd Street from Main Street to South "A" S reet, from 2 Hr. to 4 Hr. Councilman Yount reported the bak condition of Whitewater Blvd, near the 20th Century Bridge, referred to Street Commissioner Lawrence. The Board ordered the Richmond, Power and Light to proceed to change the light fixtures between :3rd and 12th Streets, the first alleys South and North of Main Street. The 33 lights are to be changed from 1000 Lumen to 7000 Mercury and work is to be started and completed at the convenience of the Richmond Power and Light. The Board approved a recommendation by Captain Stout on a trial basis';,to install a post office drop box approx. 30' south of North "A" Street ' on 8th Street East side, as requested by the Postmaster. . The Baord approved a recommendation by Captain Stout to build a barricade in front of the residence at 549 Railroad Street to prevent cars from running into the yard, also to place the following signs on Railroad Street on 19th: No right turn for west bound traffic No left turn for east bound traffic No left turn or right turn for south bound traffic Captain Stout reported that street painting has been started in the business dis- trict, painting cross walks, turn lanes and arrows. The Clerk presented proof of publication that this date had been set to hear persons interested in Improvement Resolution No. 1047-1962, "THE CONSTRUCTION OF A SANITARY SEWER ON NORTHWEST 7tFi & RICHMOND AVENUE". No property owners appeared, as City Engineer Sherick was not present for discussion on the matter, the Resolution was taken under advisement, until the next meeting.
