BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
MARCH 22, 1962
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall
with City Attorney Cecere presiding: All members present - The following
business was had to wit:
City Controller Tiffany moved that the reading of the minutes of the pre-
l' vious meeting be dispensd with, seconded by City Engineer Sherick.
111 The Board approved the attendance of City Engineer Sherick and Assistant
City Engineer Blankenship at the 48th Annual Road School at Purdue Uni-
versity March 26-29, 1962.
The Board approved a request by Police Chief Conyers to send two (2)
officers to the Traffic Accident Investigators School at Purdue Univer-
sity April 9-13, 1962.
City Engineer Sherick moved to approve the recommendation of Police Chief
Conyers to appoint Jewell Thomas Scott, 46 .South 13th Street as a pro-
bationary patrolman, effective April 11, 1962, seconded by City Controller
Tiffany, unanimous Board vote.
The Board discussed the grounds and streets surrounding the new fire sta-
tion at south 8th and "L" Street, in regard to their improvement, the
matter referred to Fire Chief Klotz and City Engineer Sherick for study
and recommendation.
Bids for the repair of the Dog Warden's car was submitted to-the Board,
the Clerk was instructed to prepare an Ordinance for the appropriation
of $200.00 to make the repairs.
The Board approved the ammendment of Ordinance No. 1663-1962, "TO REGULATE
III THE DIGGING OF TRENCHES AND OTHER EXCAVATIONS TN PUBLIC STREETS", as to
the permit fee, and referred the Ordinance to the City Engineer to make -
recommendations for the City Attorney to draft the amendments.
The Board approved the recommendation of Street Commissioner Lawrence to
award the bid for the dump truck to Kurdys Chevrolet on their bid of
$2804.13.
The Board authorized the Street Department to sweep both sides of South 9th
St. and South 6th Street between South "A" and South "E" Streets, March 23,
1962, and ordered the Police Department to restrict parking on both sides
of Bouth 6th and the west side of South 9th from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
The Board ordered street lights installes by the Richmond Power and Light
at the following locations:
2-Street Lights-On South 5th between "H" and "I" Place
2- " " On Southwest "I" west of the Abington Pike
3_ " " On Northwest "M" west of S. W. 5th Street
Also 3-existing 4,000 Lumen Incandescent Pendant Type lights on South 21st
Street were ordered increased to 12,000 Lumen Lights.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
