BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
MARCH 15. 1962
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with
City Attorney Cecere presiding - All members present - The following business
was had to wit:
City Controller Tiffany moved that the reading of the minutes of the previous
meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City hngineer Sherick, unanimous voice
vote.
Don Bell, Insurance Company of North America, explained a blanket liability pol-
icy to the Board, covering the Richmond Power and Light and the City of Richmond
against legal liability for a limit of one (1) million dollars, costing $3500,00.
The Board took the matter under advisement for futher study.
The Clerk presented /5roof of publication that this date had been set to open
sealed bids for a dump truck for the use of the Street Department. One(1) bid
was received for a net price of $2804.13, from the Kurdys Chevrolet Co. The
Board took tha bid under advisement to study with the specifications.
The Board referred a petition for street lights from Southeast 27th Street of
the Henley Road on Southeast Parkway to the Richmond Power and 4ght for estimate
and recommendation.
The Board approved a recommendation by Police Chief Conyers to employ John De
Mats as a mechanic fot the Police Department cars, effective March 19, 1962.
(De Mais is not to be a member of the police force.)
The Board approved a recommendation by Police Chief Conyers to appoint Charles
R. Chris Jr. , 115 North Test 16th Street, as probationary patrolman for one
(1) year, effective March 28, 1962.
Police Chief Conyers reported 13 one dollar pedestrian violations and 11 two
dollar violations and three warning tickets issued the first six days of the
enforcement of pedestrian traffic.
The Board approved the use of the old fire house No. 4 at South 9th and "E"
Street to be a voting place in the May 1962 primary.
The Board signed a contract with the Henry B. Steeg and Associates of Indiana-
polis for Engineering Services for Surface Drainage Improvements. The first pro-
ject to be the sewer from South 17th Street to South 23rd Street along South
"G" Street.
The Board instructed William Addler, parking meter department, to make a survey
and report to the Board of the condition of all the city owned parking lots.
The Board approved the following curb cuts:
(1) Southwest corner of South 7th and "A" Streets - 30' cut on 7th & 40'
cut on "A" requested by David Muff - to expand service station - remove
apartment house.
(2) 1321 South 10th St. 14' for private drive - requested by Phillip Reid.
(3) 2101 West Main St. 40' for private Drive - requested by John Dailey.
A complaint of a hedge at the Northwest. corner of Northwest 5th and Kinsey St. ,
obstructing the vision of motorists, was referred to Captain Stout, police,.traffic
department.
