HomeMy Public PortalAbout03-08-1962 Page 198 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY MARCH 8.1962 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City Attorney Cecere presiding: - A11 members present - The following business was had to wit: City Controller Tiffany moved that the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. The Board referred a petition for the installation of street lights on south 15th Street between South "H" and South "I" Place to the Richmond Power and Light for estimate and recommendation. A complaint of a damaged manhole coused by excavating on the property owned by Frank Hodgin at Northwest 5th Street between Main & "A" Street, was referred to City Engineer Sherick to contact the owner to make repairs. The board announced that there would be open house at the new fire station at Soutn 8th and "L" Street Saturday march 10, from 1:00 to 8:00PM and from 12:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday March 11, and the dedication ceremonies to be held at 12:15 PM Sunday, with Mayor Cutter heading the ceremonies. The Board approved a recommendation of Police Conyers to appoint Daniel Wogoman as a regular patrolman, having conpleted the one year probationary period, effective March 8, 1962. The Board authorized the installation of a new radio tower at the Southwest llth and Main Street Station by the W. ' . Crabtree Co. 1339 Soutn 10th Street for $150.00 ( Labor only). Rev. Irvin L. Baxter - Pastor of the United Penticostal Church, 1214 South 8th 111 St. appeared before the Board concerning the use of part of the ground South of the new. fire station at South 8th & "L" Street as a parking area for the Church members. Board president Cecere said that the fire department have not yet decided what use they might want to make of the lot, and that it will have to be covered with a hard surface before being used for parking. Rev Baxter was asked to check with the Board at a later date for an answer to the availability of the lot for a parking area for the Church. The board discussed tha lighting at the 22 railroad crossings in the City with nobert Rees of the Richmond Power and Light, and authorized the light company to up date plans made in 1957, make recommendations, and submit an estimate of the cost to the Board.
