HomeMy Public PortalAbout03-01-1962 Page 197 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY MARCH 1, 1962 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City Attorney Cecere presiding: All members present - The following business was had to-wit: City Controller Tiffany moved that the reading of the previous meeting minutes be dispensed with, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. The Clerk presented proof of publication that this date had been set tb hear persons interested in Assessment Roll No. 1042-1961, as no one remonstrated against the Roll, City Engineer Sherick moved that the roll be confirmed, seconded by City Controller Tiffany. City Engineer Sherick was authorized to order a tap installed for lot No. 53 for Newton Lakes to repair the street in front of 1319 South 14th St. Mr. Carl Huth, 2012 National Road West appeared before the Board concerning surface water and sewage on his property, the matter referred to the Engineering Depart- ment and the Sanitary District for study and recommendation. - Mr. Underwood, sales manager for the Fuller Brush Co. appeared before the Board concerning Ordinance No. 1656-1957, for the registration and licensing of sales- men. The Board took his situation under advisement. City Controller Tiffany moved to have "NO PARKING" signs installed in the alley between South "A" and "B" Streets and between South 6th and 7th Streets as the alley has become congested by parked cars. The Board discussed several streets with'Street Commissioner Lawrence, where the pavement is breaking up because of the weather. A program of repairing the streets will start as soon as the weather will permit. Street Commissioner Lawrence was instructed to remove a log jam under the bridge on the Water Falls Road. James McCoskey; Managing the property of Mr. Henry Fine at South 13th and "E" St. , was instructed to confer with the Park Department in regards to trimming the hedge on the Northeast corner which obstructs motorists° vision when going South on 13th St. The Board approved a request by Captain Stout to order 300 stickers to be placed on Parking Meters to warn persons not to "Jay Walk". Captain Stout reported that a light has been installed in the rear of the J. C. Penny Co. and that it is a definite improvement. The Board instructed Captain Stout to check the lighting at the railroad cross- ings and report back to the Board at the next meeting Police Chief Conyers reported that 40 pedestrian warning tickets were handed out in the third week. Thirth-six for walking against traffic signals and 4 for jay walking. Police Chief Conyers submitted an operational report of the new radar unit. There have been 424 warnings issued and 300 arrests from October 14, 1961 to March 1., 1962 The Board was notified that patrolman Joseph E. White will be required to attend the annual Field Training period with the Army National Guard Unit, at Camp Gray- ling, Michigan, August 12 through August 26, 1962. - The Board approved the final plans for the Crestdale Sub-Division, 4th addition and for the Mayfair Sub-Division.
