HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-08-1962 Page 194 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY FEBRUARY 8, 1962 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City Attorney Cecere presiding - All members present -- The following business was had to-wit: City controller Tiffany moved that the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. The Clerk presented proof of publication that this date had been set to hear per- sons interested in Assessment Roll No. 1041-196i,"THE CONSTRUCTION OF A SANITARY SEWER, SOUTH 4th STREET BETWEEN SOUTH tv, & SOUTH "K" STREETS", the proofs were accepted and ordered filed, Eight (8) persons attending the meeting were told of the Barrett Law method of paying the assessment by City Controller Tiffany, The Board instructed City Engineer Sherick to_ notify the contractor to repair the street to its original state. There being no remonstrators, City Controller Tiffany moved to confirm the Assessment Roll, except lot No. 41, which the City will assume the assessment, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. _ A request for a fire hydrant in the,.'zicinity of South 4th and "K" Street, by Mr. Roth Null was referred to the Engineering Department and the Chief of the Fire Department, for study and recommendation. The .Board approved the offer of Mr., Drake of the National,Bird' Exterminating Co. to service the City Building for: $185.00. The Clerk was instructed to advertise a preliminary assessment roll hearing for March 1, for assessment roll No. 1042 - Sanitary Sewer in South 14th & 15th Sts. The Board accepted the resignation from the City Police Department, of Lewis Danels, effective March 5, 1962. The Clerk was instructed to write Mr. Danels a letter of appreciation for his years of service to the City and Department. The Board received a letter to the effect of a notice from the Board of Works with reference to waste disposal and litter problems at the Kutter Supermarkets, on East Main Street and on National Road West, from Henry H. Eavey stating that he personally would correct the situation. The Board instructed Captain Stout of the Police Traffic Division to proceed with the street lighting program as set out in the February 1st meeting, and to include North and South 1st and 2nd Streets, and to plan for the improvement of secondary traffic routes, such as North 12th Street and Sheridan Street. The Board approved a recommendation of Captain Stout to install a "STOP TURN RIGHT ON RED" sign at Richmond Avenue and Northwest 2nd. Street, also to change the yield sign to a stop sign at Avon Lane and Southeast Parkway. The Board approved the recommendation of Captain Stout to remove the "NO LEFT TURN" sign at 7th and Main Street. The Board ordered new scotch light signs indicating direction to parking areas, installed at 5th-6th-7th & 10th Streets on Main Street, 5th -6th & 10th Streets on South "A" Street and 6th-7th-& 10th Streets on North "A" Street.
