BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall, with City
Attorney Cecere presiding; all members were present. The following business was had,
to wit:
City Controller Tiffany moved that the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting
be dispensed with, seconded by City Engineer Sherick.
City Controller Tiffany moved that the Board reject a proposal by Elmer Rogers to
purchase a portion of City owned property on Richmond Avenue, seconded by City Engineer
Sherick, unanimous vote.

The Board awarded a bid for the construction of a sanitary sewer from Northwest 5th
Street to the corporate limits:;:, including Worley Court to Mike DeLucio & Son, on
their bid of $19,934.00, subject to State Board of Health approval.
The Board moved to take action to enforce the Zoning Ordinance against Lonnis Winchester
owner of property at 1612 South 22nd Street , the property being used as a used car
sales lot in violation of the Zoning Ordinance.
The Board discussed the changing of lighting in downtown alleys, and moved to request
the Richmond Power and Light to install adequate lighting at the rear of the J. C.
Penny Store on a trial basis, also to install adequate lighting at the following
locations:
(1) From North "A" Street to South "A" Street on North and South 3rd, 4th,
Ft. Wayne Avenue; 5th, 6th, 7th, and 10th Streets.
(2) South "A" Street From South 3rd Street to South 18th Street.
(3) North "A" Street from North 3rd Street to North 16th Street.
(4) Main Street from the east end of the Main Street Bridge to the
intersection of West 5th and Main Streets.
The Board approved a recommendation by Captain Stout to install a "Stop Sign" at South
First and A Streets, to stop traffic for First Street, also to restrict parking by two
(2) parking spaces on the west side of South 2nd and north of South "A" Street.

Police Chief Conyers submitted the specifications for three (3) new 1962 automobiles
for the use of the Police Department. The Board approved the specs. and instructed
the Clerk to advertise for sealed bids to be opened February 15 (3 - 1959 cars to be
traded in) .
The Board approved a request by Police Chief Conyers to attend a seminar with another
member of the force yet to be selected, February 6-7-8.

Police Chief Conyers reported that flares and flare holders have been instilled in. all
police cruisers for use at the scene of accidents.
The Board approved a recommendation by Police Chief Conyers to designate February as
a month to have a pedestrian safety program. Warning tickets will be issued during the
month.
The Board rejected a request from a representative of the Hill Brother Coffee Company
to dispense coffee from a truck on a City street.
The Board instructed the City Controller to order 24 more wire basket type trash con-
tainers from the Indiana Industries.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
