• BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
December 21, 1961
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall, with
City Attorney Cecere presiding; all members were present. The following business
was had, to-wit:
City Controller Tiffany moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed
with, seconded by City Engineer Sherick.
111 The Clerk presented proofs of publication that this date had been set to hear
persons interested in Improvement Resolution No. 1046-1961, "A RESOLUTION TO
CONSTRUCT A SANITARY SEWER ON INDIANA AVE. FROM NORTHWEST 5th STREET TO THE
CORPORATE LIMITS AND WORLEY COURT". Ten property owners appeared before the
Board, nine voted in favor of the Resolution and one, Mr. Ernest Hotsenpiller
of 641 Indiana Avenue, voted against the Improvement. City Engineer Sherick
moved to confirm the Resolution and to advertise for bids from contractors,
(January 18) , seconded by City Controller Tiffany, unanimous voice vote.
City Controller Tiffany moved to award the bid to furnish the Richmond Fire
Department radio equipment per their low bid of $6,934.15 seconded by City
Engineer Sherick, unanimous voice vote. �x

Glenn Muckridge, Jr. appeared before the Board to explain the increase in the Blue
Cross, Blue Shield Insurance due to start in January for City employees that are
participating in the program.
The Board rejected a proposal to install parking meters at the Avco Plant on the
recommendation of Captain Stout, Police Traffic Department, and William Adler,
Parking Meter Department.
Captain Stout, Traffic Dept. , reported that the new aluminum signs "U.S. 40 BY-PASS"
have been received from the Highway Department,to be installed at 2nd & 17th &
Main Streets , to route traffic to North and South A Streets.
The Board,on the recommendation of Captain Stout, instructed the Engineering
Department to design permanent concrete islands for 3rd and Main Street, South
9th & 4!E" Street, and North 9th & "C" Street.
Captain Stout reported that the State Highway Department has retimed the traffic
signals from 3rd to 13th Street for better traffic progression.
The Board of Works,on the recommendation of Fire Chief Klotz, appointed Paul
Turner, 200 South 2nd Street, to serve as probationary fireman for one year,
effective January 2, 1962
The Board of Works approved the recommendations of Fire Chief Klotz and City
Engineer Sherick to order two (2) fire hydrants installed on North 36th Street,
and instructed the Clerk to inform the Richmond Water Works.
The `Board approved the dedication of land owned by Norman B. Berry and Catherine
E. Berry, for ant,extension to South 24th Street, to be used as a public thorough-
fare.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
