HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-09-1961 Page 179 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY November 9, 1961 The Board of Public Works andSafety met in regular session in City Hall, with City Attorney Cecere presiding. All members were present; the following business was had to+wit; City Controller Tiffany moved that the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. The Board referred a petition for the construction of a sanitary sewer, from 14 to 15 on Short Street and south on 15th Street,to the City Engineering Department to check property owners and to make an estimate of the cost. Police Chief Conyers reported that James W. Hoover would replace Clyde Smith, who is retiring, as school crossing guard at South 23rd and Reeveston Road, effective November 13, 1961. The Board approved a request by Thomas Atkinson, Dairy Inspector, to attend the Dairy Seminar at Purdue University November 14-15, 1961. The Board granted permission to William Adler, Parking Meter Department, to attend a training school at the Duncan Meter Company in Chicago, Illinois, November 15-16, 1961. Mr. Carl H. Hawkins, 402 Southwest "G" Street, appeared before the Board concerning the installation of an awning on his house, that a permit has been refused by the Board of Zoning Appeals. The Board referred the matter to City Attorney Cecere for study. The Board approved a curb cut at 201 South 22nd Street, for a private drive, requested by Glen Muckridge. The Board ordered the entire interior of Park Place restricted for parking and the curb painted yellow. The Board ordered the Police Department to enforce the "No Double Parking" in the congested area of 8th and Main Street, (especially from 5 to 6 P.M. ) . Fire Chief Klotz ' submitted the specifications for radio equipment for the Fire Department needed for the change-over to a higher frequency. The clerk was instructed to advertise for sealed bids, and to set the date of December 7, 1961 to open the bids. A petition for a street light at 36th and Main Street was referred to the Richmond Power and Light for recommendation and an estimate of cost. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
