Board OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
October 26, 1961

The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall, with
City Controller Tiffany presiding. Board President, City Attorney Cecere, was
absent; the following business was had to-wit;
. City Controller Tiffany moved that the reading of the minutes of the previous
meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Engineer Sherick.
The Board granted permission to the Fire Department to send members Sticco and
Green to a fire inspection school at Purdue University October 30- November 3, 1961.
City Controller Tiffany reported that money for the installation of "Walk Wait"
traffic signs would have to be transfered to the traffic signs and•guides account
to pay the labor cost.
Captain Stout, traffic, reported that parking meters are being installed from
South "A" to Park Place, both sides and north side of Park Place 900 block South
10th to the alley west, South 10th parking lot entrance to South "B" west side.
Parking will not be permitted on the east side of the south bound lane of South
10th Street from Park Place to South "Bff Street.

The Board approved a curb cut at 811 South West 1st Street, requested by Ralph
Wiwi.
1( The Clerk presented proof of publication that this date had been set to open
sealed bids for salt for the street department. There being no bids submitted,
the Clerk was instructed to readvertise. •
The Board approved curb cuts for private drives at 1821 West Main Street, 620
South "J" Street, and South 10th and ;'E" Street.
William Addler of the parking meter department suggested that the following
colors be used on the parking meters to designate the different time limits:
Red 15 minutes
Silver 1 hour
Gold 2 hours
Light Blue - - - - 4 hours
Light Green- - - - 10 hours
Police Chief Conyers reported that the radar unit was in operation and doing
a fine job in slowing down speeding cars. .
The Board approved the installation of more seat belts in police cars, as the
belts installed on a trial basis have proved satisfactory. •
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned:
