HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-12-1961 Page 175 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY October 12, 1961 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall, with City Attorney Cecere presiding. All members were present; the following business was had to wit: City Engineer Sherick moved that the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Controller Tiffany. The Board granted permission to the City Engineer L. Sherick and Assistant Engineer H. Blankenship, to attend the annual meeting of the Indiana Chapter of American Public Works Association in Indianapolis, on October 18th & 19th. The Board approved a curb cut for a private drive way at 333 South 5th Street at the Saint Andrews Church parking lot (16 ft.) The Board authorized City Controller Tiffany to renew the contract for fire protection between the City of Richmond and Spring Grove, which expires December 31, 1961, on the same basis as the present contract. City Controller Tiffany was instructed by the Board to make a survey of the parking lot for City Officials as to the number of spaces needed, for the possibility of obtaining more spaces for City personnel. The Board rejected a request by the Richmond Auto Electric Co. to lease meter spaces next to their building on South 9th Street. The Board of rublic Works and Safety authorized City Attorney Cecere to approve the decree of the National Automatic Tool Co. and the C 8: 0 Railroad to vacate a part of Oakland Street and certain right of ways owned by the National Automatic Tool Co. The Board announced that a short dedication program would be held for the opening of the South 9th & 10th Street City owned parking lot on October 19, - at10:00 a.m. The lot will be officially opened for business on Friday morning, October 20, 1961. The Board took under advisement a suggestion by Councilman Yount that one night be proclaimed at "Trick or Treat" night. The Board approved a request by the Exchange Club to sell tickets for the Marine Band Concert , in front of Knollenpergs Store, October 28 and November 3, 1961. The Board approved a request by Fire Chief Klotz to park a fire truck between 7th & 8th Street on the south side on October 13-14 in conjunction with fire prevention week. Pamphlets will be passed out to the public by firemen. . Police Chief Conyers reported that the new signs designating that the speed limits in the city are controlled by radar have arrived, and as soon as erected, the radar unit will be put on operation. The Board instructed Chief Conyers to enforce the Ordinance that regulates against interstate buses using North and South "A" Streets.
