HomeMy Public PortalAbout08-31-1961 Page 169 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY August 31, 1961 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall, with City Attorney Cecere presiding, All members present, the following business was had to wit: Mrs. James Emerson appeared before the Board concerning the stop light at South 13th & "E" Streets. Mrs. Emerson was informed that a full report would be given at the next Board meeting on September 7, 1961. The Board approved the recommendation of Fire Chief Klotz to appoint Donald Trotter, 508 Northwest "L" Street, as a probationary fireman, effective September 5; 1961. 111 The Board approved a request by Fire Chief Klotz to send four (4) firemen to Purdue University to attend the advanced fire training school September 13 & 14, 1961. City Controller Tiffany moved to award the bid to pave the parking lot South of South "A" Street, between 9th & 10th Street, to the DeBold Construction Company, Inc. , seconded by City Engineer Sherick. The Clerk presented proof of publication that this date had been set to open sealed bids,:for the construction of a new fire station at South 8th & "L" Street, the proofs were approved by the City Attorney as in order and they were ordered filed. Sealed bids for the general construction were as follows: V. H. Juerling Richmond, $ 87,300.00 E. S. Bultman " 91,898.00 Baystone Const. Muncie 83,775.00 PLUMBING HEATING (HOT WATER) Niewoehner, Inc. $7,337.00 $11,311.00 Crabtree Wagner 8,766.00 14,140.00 • ELECTRIC WORK ONLY HEATING & ELECTRIC HEAT & WORK Jellison Electric $8,050.00 $16,100.00 Kain Electric 7,770.00 17,174.00 Keen-Price Electric 8,197.23 9,267.37 111 City Attorney Cecere moved that the bids be taken under advisement for study and recommendation, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. - The Board approved a request for a transfer of $200.00 within the Budget of the City Engineering Department for additional money for travel expense. The Clerk was instructed to prepare an Ordinance to present to the Common Council. A petition for a sanitary sewer in the 2300 & 2400 blocks of the Holsapple Addition was referred to the Engineering Department for study. City Cohtroller Tiffany announced that the Board would meet tonight with the School Board to discuss the improvement of South "P" Street. The Board granted permission to the Chief of Police to send four (4) new policemen to Indiana University for a two week basic training program - September 25 - October 6, 1961. Councilman Yount reported complaints that the water company's hot restoring streets to its original condition after installing water lines. The Board ordered the Engineering Department to inspect all streets that have been torn up and ascertain that they have been satisfactorily repaired. Earlham College presented drawings & layouts of a group housing project for married students on the Earlham Campus, The Board referred the Earlham representative to the Board of zoning appeals.
