BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
AUGUST 24 1961
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall,
with City. Attorney Cecere presiding: all members present, the following
business was had to wit:
City Controller Tiffany moved that the reading of the minutes of the pre-
vious meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Engineer Sherick.
111 Bert Glazer appeared before the Board for permission to alter the course
of the stream west of West 18th Street and north of West Main Street. The
Board took the matter under advisement.
The Clerk presented proof of publication that this date had been set to
open sealed bids for the pavement of the City owned parking lot south of
South "A" between South 9th and 10th Streets. The proofs were accepted
and ordered filed. The following bids were opened;
DeBolt Concrete Co. $14,571.50
Cloyd McDowell 14,474.00
City Controller Tiffany moved that the bids be taken under advisement to
study, seconded by City Engineer Sherick.
Tony Wilson of T rwilliger & Wilson, architects for the new fire station
at South 8th & L'Street, presented the Board sample._bricks manufactured
by the Indiana State Industries. No decision was reached on the color of
brick to be used in the construction of the building.
The Board instructed, the Clerk to prepare a resolution to transfer $1,400.00
from payroll to other equipment in the police department budget to purchase
radar equipment, also a resolution to transfer $500.00 from supplies to
traffic signs and guides to purchase six new flasher lights to be located
near schools at South 5th Street, North West 5th Street, National Road West
and South 8th Street.
The Board received a petition signed by 50 persons to restore the stop and
go traffic signal at South 13th & "E" Streets that has been changed to a
flasher type. The Board deferred action on the matter until a further
study can be made of the intersection. Captain Stout reported that he has
arranged a meeting with Glen Cross of Vaile School to discuss students
crossing "E" Street.
Police Chief Conyers reported that the Police Department and WKBV radio
station would co-operate in a safety program concerning school children
returning to school early in September.
The Board instructed the Clerk to prepare a resolution to have the City-
owned lot at North 8th & "C" Street and the lot in Ravina Park reappraised
for the purpose of selling the lots.
The Board recommended that the 80 parking meters to be installed on the
South 9th-loth parking lot be timed as follows:
36 meters - 10 hours
22 meters - 4 hours
22 meters - 2 hours
111 The Board instructed Bill Adler, parking meter department, to study other
City-owned parking lots for possible revision of the time limits, also, to
place signs on the lots designating the time limits of the meters.
There being no further business,the meeting adjourned.
