HomeMy Public PortalAbout08-03-1961 Page 164 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY AUGUST 3, 1961 The Board. of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall, with City Attorney Cecere presiding: All members present - The following business was had to wit: City Controller Tiffany moved -that the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. City Engineer Sherick reported that his office has completed the estimate for the paving of the new City owned parking lot South of 'South "A" Street between 9th & 10th Streets, and sealed bids from contractors will be opened August 24, 1961. • Complaints of the condition of the Street on South 14th between • "T" & Short Streets, were referred to the City Engineer and Street Department for study and recommendation. The Board approved the recommendation of Police Chief Conyers, to restrict parking on both sides of North "E" Street, between 20th Street and the Glen Miller Park entrance from 8:00 AM to'the duration of the Opti-Derby to be held there August 6, 1961. The Board of- Works discussed the bids on the new Police radio system to change over to a higher frequency, that have been under advisement. City Controller Tiffany moved to continue the bids • under advisement and to have a non-partial radio technician check specifications, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. The Board instructed Captain Stout to survey the area on the West side of South -10th Street next to the Park, as to restricting parking to one side only, and the installation of parking meters. A complaint of a large hole in a lot on South 11th Street, as being hazardous was referred to Health Commissioner Hutton. The Board instructed Captain Stout of the Police traffic department to install a Street sign on East Main Street, marking Brown Drive. Clerk • Page 165 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY AUGUST 10, 1961 The 'Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall, with City Attorney Cecere presiding: All members present - The following business was had to wit: City Controller Tiffany moved that the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. Mrs. Carl Marting, 1536 South 4th Street, appeared .before the Board, concerning the dust in the vicinity of South 3rd & "P" Street, referred to the Street Department. Rev. Wyatt, pastor of the Pentacostal Tabernacle appeared before the Board to request permission to erect a tent at North 10th & "J" Street for the purpose of holding revival services from August 17 to 'August 31, 1961. The Board granted the request, subject to fire department inspection. The Clerk presented proof of publication that this date had been set to open bids on Improvement Resolution No., 1044-1961 "THE CONSTRUCTION OF A CEMENT ALLEY, FIRST ALLEY EAST OF SOUTH 12th STREET, BETWEEN SOUTH "A" & "B" STREET." City Attorney Cecere reported that the proofs were in order. City Controller Tiffany moved that the bid be awarded to the Robinson Bros. of Centerville, Indiana, on their bid of $5200.00, sedonded by City Engineer Sherick. The Board instructed the Clerk to prepare an amendment to the parking meter or- dinance to install meters on South 10th Street and Park Place. City Engineer Sherick moved that the Board award the bid to furnish the police department with new.radio equipment to the Motorola Company, of Chicago, Ill. on their bid of $13,974.30, seconded by City Attorney Cecere. The Board approved a recommendation by Captain Stout to place "No Through Traffic" signs at each entrance to the Whitewater Valley Light Plant. The Board approved the restriction of parking on the south side of the Williams- burg Pike from the railroad past the Crosley plant. The Board approved the recommendation of Captain Stout to change the stop signal III at south 13th & "E" street to an amber flasher wit? �' -- €}t. r.a=�p (N0, so,) The Board approved the installation of permanent islands to replace traffic / buttons at south 9th & "E" .Street and at North 8th & 9th & "C" Street. • Captain Stout reported that the State Highway Department will pave south 5th and Liberty Ave. from the G. street bridge to the Lutheran cemetary in the near future, also will paint the overhead monotube sign supports. The Board: approved the removal of the parking meter at the first parking space south of 8th & Main street on the east side. The Board instructed police chief Conyers to enforce the speed limits of the City being violated by trucks. • The Board approved the recommendation of police chief Conyers, to send Captain Troy Wolfe to the Juvenile Division Convention at Indianapolis August 11-12. Tony Wilson of Terwilliger & Wilson, Architects for the new fire station at south 8th & "L" street, presented final plans and specifications to the Board. City Attorney Cecere examined the notice to bidders and found in order. The notice will be published in the Pal-Item August 11 & 18, 1961, sealed bids will be open- ed in the Board of Works room Thursday August 31, 1961 for the construction of the station. The Board instructed the police department and the sanitary district to enforce the Ordinance of the City, against not placing rubbish and debris in containers.
