HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-22-1961 Page 158 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY JUNE:22, 1961 • The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall, with City Attorney Cecere presiding - All members present - The following business was had to wit: City Engineer Sherick moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Controller Tiffany. The Board denied a-:request, by:-Don Patrick of the Bruning Mfg. Company to park a van on the Cities Streets to display business machines, being against the policy of the Board of Works to display merchandise on the street. The Board approved a request by Ralph Wiwi to build a swimming pool at 113 South West "H" pursuant to Board of Works specifications. Also, to build an above ground pool at Northwest "A" & 26th Street for temporary display purposes. The Board approved the use of one fire truck and two police cruisers in the Tarum Shrine Rodeo Parade Saturday June 24, 1961. The Board ordered the Richmond Water Works Corporation to install five (5) fire hydrants in the Richmond Terrace .Addition, as located by Fire Chief Klotz and City • Engineer Sherick .for study and recommendation. Mrs. Davis, director of the Davis Strutters, a baton twirling group appeared before the Board to request permission to have a "Tag Day" the 4th of July at Glen Miller Park to raise money to take the group to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to enter National competition, the matter referred to the Park Board. Street Commissioner Lawrence reported that he has repaired the approaches to the new bridge on Bridge Avenue on a temporary basis, until the base has settled. City Engineer Sherick, Asst. Engineer Blankenship and Captain Stout of, the. Police Traffic Department, inspected the iron bridge on Bridge Avenue and found it unsafe, a load limit of 5000 lbs. was placed on the bridge and County Engineer Gardner was notified of its condition, and requested to inspect it with City Engineer Sherick. City Engineer Sherick reported that he has inspected the Elks Country Club Road, and 1111 found it in very bad shape. Street Commissioner Lawrence said he would level the road and smooth with crushed gravel and tar, then rolled - Lawrence reported that he would not be able to obtain hot-mix from Magaw until August. City Engineer Sherick reported that two (2) sewer projects had been approved by the • State Board of- Health - South 4th Street & South 14th & 15th Streets. A- complaint of the bad condition of South "A" Street from 1st to 2nd Street, was referred to Street Commissioner. Lawrence for recommendation. Captain Stout, Police Traffic Department reported that a check of taxi cabs found them in good shape. A request by Mrs. Wm. Updegraff to remove 2. hr. parking on the south side of the 1500 block on North "E" Street was denied -by the Board. . Captain Stout, Traffic, reported that stop signs had been installed at North West 3rd & 4th Streets at "E" Street. The Board instructed City Engineer to contact the DeBolt Concrete Co. , concerning the construction of a wall at North 9th & "C" Street as agreed.
