HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-15-1961 Page 157 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY JUNE 15, 1961 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in_regular session in City Hall, with City Attorney-Cecere-presiding - All members present - The following business was had to wit: City Controller Tiffany moved that the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. The Board approved the installation of three (3) Street Lights by the Richmond Power and light Co. , one (1) on Peacock Road and 12th Street and two (2) on Northwest 12th IIIStreet - that leads into the new pony league baseball park. Francis Daniels, City Dog Warden submitted a six months report to the Board, stating that he has been working staggered hours on some days resulting in a better service in picking up stray dogs.- Daniels reported 273 strays taken to the shelter house and 75 disposed of. The Board terminated the services of Charles E. McCown, City Hall janitor, as of June 14, 1961, final pay includes one extra day plus two (2) weeks vacation pay. Motion made by City Attorney Cecere, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. The Clerk was instructed to advertise for- bids for the construction of concrete pave- ment, curbs, gutters and sidewalks on South 18th Street between South "H" & "I", a bid made by the Robinson Bros. was rejected as not being bid according to City Engineering specifications. The Board instructed William Addler,- parking meter department, to submit a list of repairs needed on the City owned parking lots. Tony Wilson, of Terwilliger and Wilson, architects for the new fire station at South 8th & "L" Street, presented to the Board a revised plan of the station at. a cost of Approx. $112,000.00. Wilson suggested that bids for different types of heating be asked for and the yearly cost of each be investigated. The Clerk was instructed to prepare 'an Ordinance for an additional $40,000.00 appropriation- to add to the fire station fund of $72,000.00. Police Chief Conyers, submitted a bicycle registration schedule for the month of July III to be held at various schools. The cost will remain 500 per license plate. A request to mark a corner at Southwest 18th. & Southwest "A" Street, was referred to the City Engineering office. _ Rudolph Reed and Robert Allender, representing the Richmond Water Works Corporation, appeared before the Board, a discussion was held concerning the cost of the repairs to the Street at South 8th & "B" Street, it was decided that each pay their own costs. The water works cost to repair the water line was $1600.00 - the Cities cost to repair the Street was $1652.83. . The Board approved a request from the Tarum Shrine Club of Richmond,• to have a parade Saturday noon June 24, 1961, in conjunction with the King's Rodeo, subject to the supervision of Police Traffic Captain Stout. A petition for a water line and fire protection from residents of Richmond Terrace Addition, was referred to the Fire Chief and City Engineer for study and recommendation. The Board approved Assessment Roll 1035-1959, and instructed the Clerk to set a public hearing for July 6°,1961. Southwest "F" - from So. West 1st to the Abington Pike. The Board approved the installation of five (5) street lights by the Richmond Power and Light on Indiana Avenue, from Northwest 5th Street to the City Limits (west) .
