HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-08-1961 Page 156 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY June 8, 1961 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall, with City Attorney Cecere presiding - All members present - The following business was had to wit: City Engineer Sherick moved that the reading of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Controller Tiffany, unanimous voice vote. The Board awarded"the following bids for the construction of sanitary sewers, subject to the approval of the Indiana State Board of Health, and the signing of the necessary contracts. Improv. Res. Location Company Bid 1042-1961 So. 14-15 "M" to "0" DeBolt $18,600.00 1041-1961 Vicinity of So. 4th & "I" DeLucio 11,117.00 1043-1961 So. 11th "M" to "0" DeBolt 4,640.00 The Board approved a request from Elks Lodge #479 to have a parade, in conjunction with the State Association Convention of Elks, on Tuesday June 13, 1961, subject to the supervision of Police Traffic Captain Stout. Parade to march from 12th to 6th Street at 6:00 PM. City Engineer Sherick moved that City Attorney Cecere be appointed president of the Board of Public Works and Safety to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of William E. Wilson, seconded by City Controller Tiffany. The Board approved a request by Rev. W. H. Wyatt to erect a tent on North 10th at "J" Street from June 9th to June 18th for revival services. The Board approved a request by the Noon Optimist Club to hold the annual Derby on North "E" Street Sunday August 6, 1961, subject to Police Department Supervision. The Board instructed the Fire Chief and City Engineer to locate two (2) "fire hydrants on Southwest "I" Street between Southwest 5th Street and the Abington Pike. The Board approved a request by Jack Turnbaugh, business manager of the Richmond School City, to locate a fire hydrant at South 3rd and P Street, referred to Fire Chief Klotz and City Engineer Sherick, for recommendation as to location. The Board of Public Works and Safety entered into an agreement with Louis Pardo, 617 South 9th St. to mark the parking spaces in the Cities Streets (approx. 800). for $375.00, the money to be paid Pardo from Off-Street Parking Fund. The marking is to start immediately. Police Chief Conyers, submitted specifications for the new radio equipment, needed for the change-over to a higher frequency. The Clerk was instructed to advertise for sealed bids to be opened July 6, 1961. The Board awarded the contract to build a new fire apparatus to the American LaFrance Co. of Elmira, New York, on their bid of $20,305.76. The Board approved a request by Edward Goins, Restaurant Inspector, and Tom Atkinson, Dairy Inspector to attend the Indiana Association of Sanitarians at Indianapolis, Indiana, June 13-14-15. The Board placed supervision of the City Hall janitor under City Controller Tiffany, and approved a change in working hours to 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM.' The Board approved two (2) curb cuts of 16 Ft. each for Kemper Bros. Co. at North 15th & "F" Street for private drive-ways into a parking lot. The Board approved the purchase of a booth at the Lions Club Home Show, displays to be provided by the Richmond Police and Fire Departments. ($80.00) The Board approved a curb cut for private drive at 400 North West 8th Street, for Thomas Price. The Board issued an order that no permits for construction would be given to the Geo. F. Scantland Builders, Inc. until they furnished the street on South 18th between "H" & "I" Streets. The Board awarded the Fuel Oil Bid to the Sinclair Oil Co. (Vic Calbeck) on their low bid of 11.2¢ for #2 and 12.2¢ for #1 per gal. There being no further business the meeting adjourned.r`- ia Attest: Abakk ON4"-/J\ President
