HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-01-1961 Page 155 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY June 1, 1961 • The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall, with Controller Wilson presiding - All members present - The following business was had to wit: City Controller Wilson moved that the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Attorney Cecere. The Clerk presented proofs of publication that this date had been set to open sealed bids for 330 more or less parking meters, the proofs were accepted and ordered filed. The Duncan Parking Meter Co. of Chicago, Ill. submitted the only bid. City Attorney Cecere moved to award them the contract on their bid of $46.00 per meter (includes trade-in) seconded by City Engineer Sherick. The Board approved the recommendation of Fire Chief Klotz to appoint probationary firemen Joe Perkins and Larry Heathcoe as regular firemen, having served a one year probationary period. William E. Wilson submitted his resignation as City Controller, effective 12:00 Noon to accept a position with the Indiana State Industries. John R. Tiffany was immediately appointed to fill the vacancy and sworn in by the City Clerk. The Clerk was instructed to prepare an Ordinance for the appropriation of $1245.96 to pay for bicycle license plates. A petition for a Street Light near the ball park on Peacock Road was referred to the Richmond Light 'and Power. Attorney Denver Harlan appeared before the Board to urge the traffic department to institute a safety program to school motorists on how to make turns at inter- sections. The board approved the recommendation of Captain Stout to install a 4-way stop, with overhead flasher at West Main and 18th Street, also to move the stop sign on 18th Street from South lest "A"' to South West "B" Street. The Board approved a recommendation to restrict parking 50 feet west of Cobles Casket Factory parking lot entrance, on the South side of Northwest "F" Street, . by Captain Stout. • The Board signed an agreement with the State Highway Department to install Walk- Wait signals furnished by the State on US 40 at 5th-6th-7th & 10th Streets. The Board instructed Captain Stout to furnish the engineering department with the number of parking meters needed for South 9th Street (west side only). and South 5th-6th & 7th Street (on both sides) in the 100 block„the engineering department to estimate the cost for installing the meter posts and to advertise for bids for the job. • The Board instructed Street Commissioner Lawrence to install traffic buttons at North "C" & 8th & 9th Streets. The Board authorized Captain Stout to have printed 500 copies of the new traffic ordinance, and to order a new type traffic ticket, which includes pedestrian violations. A petition for a sanitary sewer in the vicinity of Northwest 5th & Indiana Ave. was referred to the City Engineer for study and recommendation. 111. A petition for Street Lights on Indiana Ave. was referred to the Richmond Power and Light, for estimate and recommendation. The Clerk was instructed to obtain an estimate from Louis Pardo, concerning the marking of parking spaces on the cities lots and Streets. The Board awarded the gasoline bid to the Warfield Oil Company, on their firm bid of 190 per gallon to furnish 103,000 more or less gallons from June 1st, 1961 to June 1st, 1962.
