HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-11-1961 Page 152 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY May 11, 1961 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall, with City Controller Wilson presiding. All members present. The following business was had to wit: Mrs Dorothy Sanders, Mrs. John Daily, Mrs. John Stanley and Mrs. Donald Vance, appeared before the Board, concerning Street Lights on South 21st street below South "E" street, the Clerk was instructed to order a survey of the area by the Richmond Power and sight. The Board signed a contract with the David Keyser, Ordinance Codification Service of Milwaukee, Wisconson, to recodify the Cities Ordinances for a sum of $4200.00 City Attorney Cecere presented a letter from the Regional Engineer of the Pennsylvania Railroad Co, acknowledging a request to investigate the condition and need of sidewalks adjacent to the crossing at Northwest 5th street, the matter was referred to Mr. R.D. Baldwin, District Engineer for recpmmendation, and advised:that prompt action would be taken in this matter. The Board approved a request by police chief Conyers to send three (3) men . to the National Aquatic School at Limberlost Camp for the American Red Cross Life Saving Training, under the direction of Purdue University, June 11-21, 1961. Fire Chief Klotz reported that the Fire Department will resume voluntary inspections of local houses May 31, 1961 to uncover fire .hazards. The Board approved a permit for the construction of a swimming pool for Frank Conrad, 28 Circle Drive, Richmond, Indiana, as the plans submitted conforms to the specifications set by the Board of Public Works and Safety. The Board approved a curb cut of 30 ft. at 11®3-1101 East Main street, for a private driveway. The Board approved a curb cut at 1840 West Main street, of 12 ft. for a private drive. The Board received information that bids for the construction of the new armory would be advertised next week and opened in early June, with work scheduled to start July 1 , 1961. The Board referred a request for a bus stop at the Crosley Plant to traffic department, Captain to assign the bus company a 50 ft. area. The Board assigned City Engineer Sherick to prepare an estimate of the cost to make repairs to the surface of the City owned parking lots. The Board set May 25th 1961 to open sealed bids for Street Materials, fuel and gasoline, and instructed the Clerk to advertise for bids. The Board approved locations of South 5th & "B South "A" & 6th, South 9th & "J" and South 9th & "H" for additional benches to be placed by Bench-Ad of Indiana Inc. The Board approved that the Richmond Power and Light install Street Lights, .. estimate No. 1848 (Worley Addition) The Board approved the installation of Street Lights from West 18th street • and Main to the Salisbury Road by the Richmond Power and Light, estimate No. 2001 The Board instructed the Clerk to advise Mr. James Taggart that a business that he was operating at 23 Circle Drive was in violation of the zoning code, and that he would have to cease operations immediately.
