HomeMy Public PortalAbout04-13-1961 Page 148 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY April 13; 1961 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session with City Controller Wilson presiding. All members present, the following business was had to wit: City Controller Wilson moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved as read, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. Tha Board approved a curb cut for a private drive way of 30 feet for the Peoples Home Savings Association parking lot at 12 North 8th street. The Board granted a request for permission to sell For-Get-Me-Nots in the City to the Disabled Veterans May 12-13, 1961. The Board approved Assessment Roll 1037-1961, " Concrete curbs and gutters on southwest 8th between "A" and National Road. The Clerk was instructed to set a date for Public Hearing ( April 27, 1961) and to notify property owners of the hearing and their assessment. City Attorney -Cecere moved that the Board adopt a preliminary resolution for the construction of a sanitary sewer on South 4th street, from "I" to "K" streets and on South "K" from South 5th street to the Liberty Pike, seconded by City . Engineer Sherick. The Clerk was instructed to set a date for a Public Hearing (May 4th) for the Improvement Resolution (No. 1041-1961) . City Attorney Cecere moved that Improvement Resolution No. 1039-1961, " Sidewalks on the north side of National Road East, from Henley Road to the Elks Country Club Road" "NOT" be confirmed, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. City Attornet Cecere moved that the Street Commissioner be advised to complete the improvement of West Main Street from West 18th to the Salisbury Road as soon as possible, and to use Street Department Funds. The Board instructed Street Commissioner Lawrence to remove a tree limb on South "I" between 8th and 9th streets that is obstructing traffic. A complaint of a bad situation on the East side of south 7th street, immediately north of south "A" , caused by trees and birds, was referred to Park Commissioner McBride for study and recommendation, The Board approved a request from Fire Chief Klotz to send (2) firemen to the arson school at Purdue University April 24-19, 1961. Donald Bass having served a one year probationary period with the Richmond Fire Department, was promoted to the rank of regular fireman, on the recommendation of Fire Chief Klotz. The Clerk was instructed to prepare an Ordinance to transfer $3500.00 from the anticipated fire fighting equipment fund to the fire department motorized fund as needed in the purchase of a new fire apparatus. Police Chief Conyers reported the Meter Maids, Beniot and Vosemeier worked with Meter Maids in Bloomington, Indiana, April 10-11, 1961.
