BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY
RICHMOND, INDIANA
April 6, 1961
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall,
with City Controller Wilson presiding. All members present. The following
business was had to wit:
111 City Controller Wilson moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of
the previous meeting, seconded by City Engineer Sherick.
Robert Welker, American Government student from Earlham College attended the
meeting to observe the functions of the local Board of Works.
The Board approved a temporary easement for the Richmond Water Works
Corporation of 50 feet, for a pipe line, near the intersection of Randolph
street and North West First.
The Board received a letter from Councilwoman C. Hoskins in regards to
pedestrian walks across the Pennsylvania railroad crossing at North West
5th street. The matter referred to City Attorney Cecere for study.
The Board approved a request from the Model "A" Restorers Club to display
cars in the Glen Miller Park from 12:00 noon until 2:30 PM, Sunday May 21 , 1961,
and a police escort to the southern City limits on route +27. (approx. 50 cars)
The Board approved the recommendation of Police Chief Conyers , to employ the
following " METER MAIDS " (effective April 10, 1961)
Donna L. Vosmeier 237 South 6th street
Frances Wright 299 South "Q" street
Dorothy Benoit 425 South 14th street
Police Chief Conyers was granted permission to attend the International
Association of Police Chiefs Conference at Montreal, Canada, September 30th
through October 5th 1961. .
A complaint of water not draining from the street at South West "H" near
the Abington Pike was referred to the City Engineer for study and recommendation.
Mayor Cutter reported that he would attend a Mayors Conference in Washington
D.C. in June.
Captain Stout reported that any signs to be installed or removed from State
Highways would have to be approved by the State Highway Department, concerning
signs referred to the Board of Works from the Common Council at North "D" and
9th street, 18th and Main street. /�
Complaints of the bad conditions of the street on North West 8th street, hear
the Parkview school, was referred to the City Engineer for study and recommendation.
City Attorney Cecere reported thatiall the deeds for the properties for the City
owned parking lot on South 9th and 10th between South "A" and "B" streets have
been acquired and recorded, and residents are to be out by May 1 , 1961.
The cost to widen and improve North "D" street from 7th to 8th street, was
referred to the City. Engineer for an estimate.
111 City Attorney Cecere moved that the bid for a new fire truck be awarded to the
American LaFrance Co. of Elmira, New York, seconded by City Engineer Sherick.
(The awarding of the bid will be held in abeyance until additional funds have
been approved $3305.76)
The Board approved a request by Restaurant Inspector Goins, to attend a Publi c
Health Institute at the Indiana Medical Center in Indianapolis April 17,-21, 1961.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
