HomeMy Public PortalAbout03-23-1961 Page 144 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY March 23, 1961 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City hall with City Controller Wilson presiding. All members present. The following business was had to-wit: City Engineer Sherick moved, that the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Controller Wilson. The Clerk presented proofs of publication showing that this date had been set to open sealed bids for a 1961 automobile to be used by the Police Department, the bids are based on a 1957 Chev. trade in, following are the bids received: Dea Meadows Ford Ford $1667.00 Kurdys Chev. Chev. 1799.00 Raper Sales , Ply. 1726.00 City Controller Wilson moved that the bids be taken under advisement to study the specifications, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. The Board approved a 17' curb cut for a private drive-way, at 15 Liberty Ave. requested by Robert Haisley. The Board rejected a petition from the School City of Richmond for the. installation of a fire hydrant at South 3rd and "P" street, pursuant to the policy of the Board as to installing fire hydrants where there is nothing to protect. Members of the Richmond Rod Rockers Club appeared before the Board with signs that are to be placed in conjuction with the City Limit signs and read "SAFETY IS NO ACCIDENT ", they were referred to Captain Stout of the traffic department, for installation instructions. The Board approved the promotion of Norman Brehm to permanent rank on the Richmond Fire Department, having completed his one year of probation. Police Chief Conyers reported, that he has received 68 applications for the three jobs as Meter Maids and would make his recommendations for the jobs March 30, 1961. (next Board meeting ) The Board awarded the tree removal bid to Arthur Richards, of New Paris, Ohio, subject to - that he provide the necessary insurance and can meet the terms of the contract, Richards bid is $14.50 per tree. The Board instructed the Clerk to inform the Noon Optimist Club, by letter that the trash can contract between them and the City is terminated and that they remove the cans within 30 days. A different type container is being considered by the Board. The Board instructed Street Commissioner Lawrence to repair a high curb in the alley between the City Parking Lot and Dumonds lot on North 5th street. City Engineer Sherick, Assistant Blankenship and Street Commissioner Lawrence will attend the 47th annual road school at Purdue University March 27-28-29-30. City Engineer Sherick presented plans for the widening of North 16th street from Main to North "A" street. City Controller Wilson said that there were no funds available at present for this project. The Board discussed the installation of time schedule signs at bus stops with Ill Darrell Sheffer manager of the Richmond City Bus Lines, the matter referred to Captain Stout for recommendation.
