BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY .
March 9, 1961
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall
with City Controller Wilson presiding, all members present. The following
business was had to wit:
City Engineer Sherick moved, that the reading of the minutes of the
previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Controller Wilson.
IIIThe Clerk presented proofs of publication that this date had been set to
hear persons interested in Assessment Roll 1038-1961 (sidewalks , curbs and
gutters west 18th to the Salisbury Road) the proofs were accepted and ordered
filed. As no remonstrators appeared before the Board, the roll was approved.
The paved street will be constructed as soon as the weather will permit.
The Clerk presented proofs of publication that this date had been set to
open sealed bids for a new fire apparatus, the proofs were accepted and
ordered files. The following bids were received:

City Attorney Cecere moved, that the bids be taken under advisement for study
and recommendation.
The Board approved that the TB X-Ray Machine be parked in the opposite
direction at the South 8th street entrance to the Knollenberg store for
• 2 weeks in June, 1961.
III The Board rejected a request for a permit to install a canvas type awning
by the Robbins awning Co. at the Palais Royal Store, because of being in
violation of fire code #1.

Captain Stout, Traffic, reported that the signs in Berry Field would be
replaced as soon as a new Scotch-Lite material is placed on them.
The Board of Works ordered the police department to enforce the Ordinance
banning trucks from using the City Streets other than State or Federal
Highways, except when making deliveries in specific areas.
The Board referred the matter of widening North 16th street from Main to
"A" to City Engineer Sherick to prepare plans and specifications to present .
to the Board for approval.
The Board instructed City Health Inspector Hutton to investigate property
at 719 Northwest "L" street, owned by E. Blue, for possible violation_bf .the
sanitary code.
The Board instructed Fire Chief Klotz and Building Commissioner Sligar to
make a survey of the area in the vicinity of 1216 South 22nd street to
investigate a complaint that a:used auto and auto parts business being
engaged in there by Lonnie Winchester is in violation of the zoning code.
The Board signed the contract with Wilson & Terwilligar, architects, for
illdrawing the plans for the new fire station at south 8th and "L" streets.
The Board instructed Fire Chief Klotz and Sanitary Inspector Hutton to
investigate the Gilmer Trailer Court and make a report to the Board as to
its orders being carried out for the improvement of the court.
The Board signed an agreement with the Richmond Water Works Corporation
to grant them an easement for a pipe line on City owned property at North
10th and Whitewater Blvd.

The Board instructed street Commissioner Lawrence to confer with the State
Highway Department, relative to sweeping State Routes in the City. Lawrence
announced that the street sweeping schedule set up last year, would be
resumed April 1, 1961.
The Board reported, that an Ordinance asking for S10,000.00 in additional
funds for the change-over of radio equipment in the police department
would be presented to Council for its consideration.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
