BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
March 2, 1961
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session with City
Controller Wilson presiding, all members present. The following business
was had to wit:
City Engineer Sherick moved that the reading of the minutes of the previous
meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Controller Wilson. .
The Board approved a request from the Good Oil Co. to move a 20' by 26'
building from 1215 North West 5th street to 430 North West "L" street.
. Mr. Hubert L. Lincoln of the Link-O-Matic Co. appeared before the Board,
requesting a street sign at the rear of North 6th street and Washington Ave.
Mr. Lincoln was informed that the entrance to his place of business was an
easement and could not be given a name., .
The Board received a letter from the Sanitary District, concerning a man
with a push-cart to sweep debris in the downtown area, where the sweeper
cannot operate, referred to Street Commissioner Lawrence.
This date had been set for a public hearing for persons interested in the
property involved in the proposed City parking lot between South 9th & 10th
streets and South of "A". Notices were delivered to property owners by members
of the Richmond Police Department, notices accepted by owners and. filed.
Written remonstrances were filed by. Everett Bolander, Idris King and Lillian
Feck. The matter was taken under advisemnet.
The Board of Works received complaints_from residents living in the vicinity_
of South West 1st and "G° street that water is being pumped from basements in
the area onto "G" street, causing damage to the street and creating a nuisance,
referred to the City Engineer for study and recommendation.
III Fire Chief Klotz reported that a fire school would be held at hose house #3,
March 7-8-9-10, instructors from Purdue University will assist local officers
in the program.
The Board approved a recommendation of Eire Chief Klotz to place Fireman
Holt on the disability pension list, effective March 7, 1961.
Police Chief Conyers submitted specifications of a 1961 2 door sedan
automobile for the-use of the detective department, the Clerk was
instructed to advertise for sealed bids. (March 23, 1961)
Captain Stout, Traffic, reported that approval has been obtained to cut back
the radius of the three corners at South 9th and "E" street:, also the
location of the islands has been approved.
Captain Stout, reported that the State Highway Department informed him that
the walk-wait signals for 8th and 9th streets would not be ready for
installation for approximately 3 weeks, ( Captain will try to find temporary
repairs)
The Board approved that a request be made to the State Highway Department
for new walk-wait signals for 5th-6th-7th & 10th on Main.
The Board approved the traffic department placing sand bags on a trial basis
at 3rd and Main street as an aid to motorist in making a right turn to the
Ill South into merging traffic.
The Board approved the recommendation of Police Chief Conyers to appoint
Daniel Wogoman, 627 North West "L" street as a probationary patrolman, effective
March 8, 1961.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
